Omega Complex Novel (Completed) - Chapter 96 (Completed)
While showering, I organized the words I hadn’t been able to say until now: excuses for the frequent company dinners, testimony that Lee Junseok wasn’t bothering me, an apology for upsetting him, and all the feelings I had felt.
It belatedly occurred to me that if I had just endured one more day, it would have been the weekend, but I didn’t regret skipping the company dinner. My patience had run out too long ago to wait until tomorrow.
“Are you all washed up?”
Lee Yoonwoo was waiting for me with a troubled expression. I wondered why, but as soon as I reached the kitchen, I understood. On the table, the breakfast I had prepared for him was untouched.
“…You didn’t eat?”
How could it still be there hours after I left for work? Even if he skipped breakfast, not eating lunch was unbelievable.
“I didn’t have an appetite…”
He rubbed his eyes, avoiding my gaze as if apologizing. He squeezed his eyes shut and rolled them left and right a few times, looking tired. At that sight, my heart softened, and I gave up nagging him, sitting down at the table.
“Do you want to get glasses and wear them only when you look at the monitor? Or take some supplements.”
“No, I’m fine. More importantly, Taegyeom.”
Lee Yoonwoo sat across from me and swallowed dryly. The moment I saw his Adam’s apple slowly rise and fall, I instinctively knew what he was about to say.
“I have something to tell you.”
It’s finally here.
My back stiffened with tension. His serious face was as terrifying as a judge delivering a death sentence. Even though I hadn’t done anything wrong, I felt like I should apologize first. Whether he knew my feelings or not, he softly began.
“I’ve been thinking…”
My heart instinctively sank. The creeping anxiety had already gripped my neck tightly. His avoiding gaze and slightly furrowed brow kept sending bad signals.
“We’ve been together for five years.”
“…Uh, yeah, that’s right.”
I thought he would at most talk about something related to Lee Junseok. That he had been upset and wanted to talk about it. I thought he would talk about his feelings, just like he had before. Of course, I had also thought about how to resolve it.
“We’ve been together for a long time…”
But the introduction to his story was so different from what I had imagined. The length of our relationship wasn’t important for talking about Lee Junseok. Expressing dissatisfaction also had nothing to do with how many years we had been together.
I’ve been thinking, and we’ve been together for a long time. There was only one thing that could possibly come next.
“After being together this long, it’s enough.”
Enough for what, I wanted to ask. No matter how many years we had been together, or how many more years we would be together. There was no “enough” in my relationship with Lee Yoonwoo. At least, that’s what I thought.
“We,”
What if he says he wants to break up?
The thought that flashed through my mind instantly bleached my mind white. Even though I knew it was an extreme assumption, at that moment, I couldn’t think of anything else. Lee Yoonwoo’s reactions these past few days, and the times we kept missing each other. To me, recalling all of that, what he was about to say was obvious.
“Will you marry me?”
Blink, our gazes met. My head felt numb, and I heard a ringing in my ears. The moment I foolishly closed and opened my eyes, something streamed down my cheek.
“…”
“…”
A heavy silence fell over the table. Even Lee Yoonwoo, who had spoken, was flustered, and I, who had heard it, was speechless. Lee Yoonwoo, who had been staring blankly at my face, suddenly opened his mouth with a surprised expression.
“Why… why are you crying?”
When had I seen that face? A long time ago, when I opened the innermost stall in the bathroom? Had Lee Yoonwoo, who saved me then, looked at me with that expression?
“…”
Tears streamed down. One drop, two drops, and countless more. Every time I closed and opened my eyes, Lee Yoonwoo’s face blurred through my watery vision. He was still looking at me with blank eyes.
“I…”
I slowly covered my eyes. Through my palms, I could feel the warm heat on my eyelids. As I bit my lower lip tightly and composed myself, Lee Yoonwoo’s pheromones came close with a thud.
“What’s wrong, Taegyeom?”
He pulled my wrist and cupped my cheek with his other hand. In my brightened vision, I saw Lee Yoonwoo with his eyebrows lowered. He lowered himself, even kneeling, and looked up at me with a flustered expression. Wiping away a slight tear, he whispered.
“Don’t cry.”
I threw myself into Lee Yoonwoo’s arms. The learned pheromones gently enveloped my body. Lee Yoonwoo held me tightly and stroked my back, and rubbed his cheek against my ear as if to charm me.
“…Weren’t you mad at me?”
I stammered out a sentence. Lee Yoonwoo stopped moving, asking back in a thoroughly bewildered voice,
“Why would I be?”
Pfft, a hollow laugh escaped me. Along with it burst the relief that he wasn’t angry with me. The emptiness about all the worries I had had. And the unreality of the current situation.
“…You didn’t contact me during the day.”
“No, I was working. You were busy too.”
“And you were sleeping when I came home…”
“…That’s because I was sleepy…”
“And you hung up the phone…”
As I continued speaking, sorrow welled up. I bit my lower lip and lowered my head, and Lee Yoonwoo hugged me a little tighter. He was so flustered that the pheromones surrounding him wildly fluctuated. He gently stroked my back, softening his voice.
“How could I be angry with you…?”
It was a remark full of affection. His voice, his touch, and his pheromones. All of it was gentle, as if comforting me.
“Don’t cry, okay?”
“…I thought you were going to break up with me.”
I didn’t even feel embarrassed about crying. Various emotions mixed together and flowed out as tears. I had pretended to cry while being hugged before, but I had never genuinely cried while being hugged. The sorrow welled up endlessly.
“I thought you were angry with me, and you were going to say let’s end it.”
“No way…”
Lee Yoonwoo let out a hollow laugh and pulled me away. Seeing my still tear-stained face, he gently rubbed my eyes with his thumb. I childishly pressed my cheek against Lee Yoonwoo’s palm.
“…Perhaps because of that last time?”
I silently buried myself in his embrace. Lee Yoonwoo sighed softly and gently stroked my head. It was the same sigh, but it was different from the one he had let out in the car a few days ago.
“That wasn’t your fault either.”
“…”
“I was upset, but honestly, if I had to tell you about everyone who was interested in you, remembering all that would be a chore.”
Another sigh escaped him. It wasn’t directed at me; it felt like Lee Yoonwoo was blaming himself. He hugged my neck tightly and released pheromones, whispering very softly.
“…I’m sorry.”
I tugged at Lee Yoonwoo’s collar with my fingertips. It was meant as a signal for him to get up, but he just hugged me tighter in that position. After a brief pause, choosing his words, he finally spoke briefly.
“I’m pregnant.”
It was a surprisingly simple statement. I had fully expected it, and had suspected it from the beginning. But the moment I heard it in his voice, a more intense emotion surged than ever before.
“Three weeks… no, is it four weeks now?”
“…”
“It’s too early, and they said it was unstable because I’m recessive, so I couldn’t tell you. But maybe because of that, I keep feeling sleepy and sensitive, so…”
Lee Yoonwoo hesitated even as he continued speaking. He briefly pulled me away from his embrace, met my gaze directly, and smiled. His eyes, curving awkwardly, were more lovely than ever.
“I underestimated the dominant alphas too much.”
My breath caught in my throat. Before I could say anything, tears poured out first. Lee Yoonwoo, startled, hugged me and chuckled softly, muttering.
“Why are you crying again?”
“I…”
Lee Yoonwoo calmly waited for me, who was sobbing with my shoulders shaking. I forced back my tears and barely managed to pull out my voice.
“I’ll do well…”
I heard him laugh. ‘How much more?’ he asked back. Following that, a grateful ‘thank you’ was met with a pleasant ‘me too.’
It was a long time later that my tears finally subsided. I lifted Lee Yoonwoo up onto my lap and held him like a child. He nestled comfortably in my arms, resting his head around my neck.
“It must have been hard.”
I spoke with a trembling voice. Lee Yoonwoo didn’t answer that short comfort.
“No appetite, feeling bad, and your dad keeps coming home late.”
“…”
“You suffered alone. My Yoonwoo”
“…What.”
His voice was slightly wet. Was it just my imagination, or did I feel moisture where his face was buried? His increasingly stable pheromones gently mingled with mine.
We shared body heat like that for a long time. Until my lacking breath was fully replenished, and Lee Yoonwoo’s warmth resembled mine. And until the tears I shed had somehow spread to him.
“I was going to propose.”
After the tears stopped, Lee Yoonwoo and I sat side by side and ate. Thankfully, he ate heartily for the first time in a while and finished an entire bowl of rice.
“I bought a ring, but I didn’t know how to give it to you, so I just carried it around.”
I sat him on the sofa and brought out the hidden ring. It was just something I carried in my bag, but I never dreamed I’d give it to him like this.
The ring, placed on Lee Yoonwoo’s hand, sparkled more than I had imagined, and he spread his fingers with a blank expression.
“I’ll make you happy.”
I remembered the first time I put a couple ring on him. Even then, when we promised to live together and vaguely envisioned a future together, I loved Lee Yoonwoo just as much. I loved him, and because I loved him, I vowed to make him happy no matter what.
“Marry me, Yoonwoo”
Lee Yoonwoo silently pressed his lips against mine. The lips that briefly lingered and then parted formed a beautiful curve. He intertwined our fingers, kissed the back of my hand, and then put a ring identical to his own on my finger.
“It’s beautiful.”
That day’s event would be a teasing point for the rest of our lives. Just like he had shed tears when I said let’s live together, I too cried when he asked me to marry him.
It was the moment my life was entirely filled with Lee Yoonwoo
