Omega Complex Novel (Completed) - Chapter 44
Bang, the door opened at that moment. Unfortunately, those people’s destination seemed to be the same classroom as mine. I watched them enter the classroom without averting my gaze or saying anything.
“His name was Lee Yoonwoo……”
The rest of the sentence was unnaturally cut off. The gazes that met in the air pricked my skin. One, two, the student blinked, then their eyes widened as if they would pop out.
“……Gasp!”
The student who followed also showed a similar reaction as soon as they saw me. The sight of them covering their mouth with both hands and backing away looked somewhat pathetic. Seeing their young faces, both seemed to be freshmen, but why on earth would they blurt out such uncontrollable gossip?
“……”
“……”
This time, a truly awkward silence fell. I didn’t say anything, but even though I remained silent, both their faces turned pale. Meanwhile, Kim Dohyun looked at them alternately and spoke in a calm voice.
“What did I tell you?”
The mechanical pencil spun in Kim Dohyun’s hand. Pfft, he snorted and shrugged his shoulders, continuing.
“I told you it spread, didn’t I?”
I awkwardly touched the back of my neck. At first, I was annoyed, but seeing their pale faces, my motivation dwindled. In fact, most of the rumors were true, so it was ambiguous to get angry and tell them not to spread false rumors.
“……”
No, there was one wrong part, though.
“You.”
I started, looking at the taller of the two. I didn’t feel any pheromones, but judging by his voice, he was an Alpha. He had clearly said, ‘Even though I’m an Alpha, I can’t overcome my instincts.’
“Not being able to overcome your instincts is not something to be proud of.”
His pale face flushed crimson. He tightly shut his mouth and lowered his gaze. His hands were neatly clasped together.
“Just because you’re like that doesn’t mean you should think others are too.”
I knew that Alphas reacted to an Omega’s heat cycle. I also couldn’t help but react when I smelled Alpha pheromones.
But Choi Taegyeom had tried to go home even with me in heat right in front of him. It meant he had endured it with reason, even when I demanded he release pheromones. I didn’t like the fact that he was slandered in such a way, especially a guy who had been so considerate of me even during our intimate act.
“……I’m sorry.”
A meek apology was heard. The guy standing behind him also apologized softly and bowed his head. Their fidgeting fingers seemed to show how embarrassed they were.
“It’s fine, as long as you know.”
At my indifferent reply, Kim Dohyun’s gaze returned to me. He had been observing the whole time, yet his expression seemed to indicate he had something to say. The nervous guys exchanged glances among themselves, then apologized again in a small voice.
“It’s fine, just be careful next time.”
“……Yes.”
They finished their short reply and fled the classroom. They seemed to be taking the same exam as me, but they clearly couldn’t bring themselves to stay in the same classroom. Kim Dohyun, who had been staring at their retreating backs, muttered in a small voice.
“I thought you’d get angrier……”
His muttering contained a hint of disappointment. Perhaps Kim Dohyun had expected me to scold them more. But unfortunately, I had no intention of nagging further.
“Why bother?”
As a result, the rumors that spread around school were only two: ‘Choi Taegyeom carried an Omega in heat,’ and ‘That Omega was Lee Yoonwoo.’ Both were undeniable facts, and there was nothing to hide.
“I don’t really care about the rumors. It’s not wrong anyway.”
If I didn’t react, it would disappear soon enough. Even if it didn’t, it didn’t really matter to me.
“It was just the ‘instinct’ talk that bothered me.”
Come to think of it, was Choi Taegyeom okay? He was generally insensitive to others’ gazes, but I still felt a little uneasy. It seemed best to contact him after the exam.
“That’s not wrong either, though.”
Kim Dohyun pressed his notebook with the tip of his mechanical pencil. What was it, I remembered what he said when I first met him. That when Omegas go into heat, they want to throw away all reason and everything else. The words I had heard with one ear and let out the other now seemed amusing.
“You endured it well yourself, though.”
A hint of laughter unconsciously escaped me. Kim Dohyun frowned as if asking what I meant.
“At the hospital. When I got the shot and pheromones came out.”
“……”
“If you couldn’t overcome your instincts, you would have pounced on me there.”
Choi Taegyeom wasn’t the only one who endured until the very end. On the emergency staircase of the hospital, Kim Dohyun held his breath and endured my pheromones. Even with his face red and his eyes losing reason, he didn’t succumb to his instincts.
“……Of course I had to endure it.”
It’s a crime. The words that came out of his mouth felt very unfamiliar. He didn’t listen to me when I talked about sexual harassment, but now he was saying something quite sensible.
“So you do know.”
I chuckled and lowered my gaze. Perhaps because my mind was at ease, pheromones began to subtly emanate. In the past, I would have contained them, but there was no longer a reason to pretend to be a Beta.
Moreover, even if I stopped pretending to be a Beta, the title of ‘extremely recessive Omega’ wouldn’t disappear. My pheromones were so faint that it was embarrassing to even call them ‘pheromones.’ Unless someone was particularly sensitive, they wouldn’t even notice their presence.
“Senior’s pheromones……”
But Kim Dohyun pointed out my pheromones as soon as I relaxed. He narrowed his brows, tightly shut his mouth, and then let out a short, dry laugh.
“You don’t need to hide it anymore, right?”
A ghostly accurate guy. It seemed his claim of having a good sense of smell wasn’t a lie. It was also true that he was more sensitive to pheromones than typical Alphas.
“Haa……”
A barely audible sigh was heard. When I glanced over, Kim Dohyun was propping his chin on the opposite side from me. His posture seemed to be a declaration that he wouldn’t converse further, so instead of adding anything, I focused on studying for the exam.
After that, no one entered the classroom for quite a while. Naturally, our conversation also ceased, and at some point, he ran his hand through his hair and got up from his seat.
“I’ll go have a smoke.”
What came out of Kim Dohyun’s pocket was the same cigarette he smoked in the smoking room last time. He opened the cigarette pack, confirmed it was half-empty, then suddenly turned to me.
“Senior, do you have cigarettes?”
It was a random question. He wasn’t holding a cigarette, and he was staring at me, waiting for my answer.
“Isn’t that one still left?”
“……I want to smoke something else.”
“Mine will be weak.”
I rummaged through my bag and pulled out a cigarette pack that was as good as new. It was something I had completely forgotten about for the past week. Even if I smoked it because of pheromones, I had smoked for five years, yet it hadn’t crossed my mind even once.
“You can smoke all of it, just lend me your notes.”
Our fingertips brushed slightly. Kim Dohyun turned his back without hesitation as soon as he received the cigarette. There was no ‘okay’ or ‘thank you.’ However, I thought his ear, which I briefly saw, seemed a little red.
The afternoon exam ended reasonably well. The notes I borrowed from Kim Dohyun were more useful than I expected, and most of the exam questions were from familiar areas. Kim Dohyun didn’t return until most people had arrived for school, only coming back just before the professor arrived.
