Omega Complex Novel (Completed) - Chapter 29
My mind turned completely white. It didn’t matter that Choi Taegyeom was looking at me worriedly, or that the surroundings had become noisy. Unease, panic, a slight fear, and an utterly uncontrollable primal urge.
“Ah…”
It wasn’t a cold. It was similar to a cold, but fundamentally different. This heat, these five senses. A sensation so thrilling it made my head spin.
“I just…”
I could feel my pheromones wavering. If I let go of the tension just a little, they would pour out uncontrollably. The last remnants of my reason barely held on, but even that was reaching its limit.
“Just a moment…”
I had to get out of here. No, at least I had to escape to a place where pheromones couldn’t be felt. When I hadn’t lost my reason, when the alpha pheromones hadn’t consumed me.
“I’m fine, just a moment…”
“What are you talking about?”
But Choi Taegyeom didn’t let go of me easily. He stood up with me and roughly grabbed my arm. Stumble, sway, startled voices came from all directions.
“What do you mean you’re fine? You’re incredibly hot right now.”
“…Are you okay, oppa? Should I call an ambulance?”
“Hyung, hyung, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
There was no strength in my body. I wanted to pull away my grabbed arm, but even that was difficult. As I faltered backward, Choi Taegyeom frowned and grabbed my shoulder.
“You really…”
“Senior.”
Whoosh, my vision flipped. Kim Dohyun knocked Choi Taegyeom’s hand away and caught me as I stumbled. I realized now that at some point, Kim Dohyun’s pheromones were no longer felt.
“What are you doing?”
Choi Taegyeom spoke with a growl. His sharply edged pheromones surged out menacingly. At that, I gasped involuntarily.
“Haaah…”
Thump, my heart reacted with a loud beat. The pheromones that had entered deep into my lungs writhed and expanded their territory. Choi Taegyeom, with a chillingly hardened expression, approached me.
“Can’t you see he’s sick right now?”
As he approached, Kim Dohyun supported me and retreated. And he looked down at me with a very troubled expression. A small, almost inaudible voice escaped through his trembling lips.
“Senior, your pheromones are coming out.”
“…!”
It felt like someone had hit me hard on the back of the head. Holding my breath, curling my body, it was no use. The pheromones I had carefully hidden were slowly, slowly seeping out.
“Hey, call an ambulance.”
“Yes? Ah, yes!”
Choi Taegyeom ran his hand through his hair wildly and gave someone an order. Then he took a big step towards me. His fierce momentum felt like it would carry me away any moment, but surprisingly, he couldn’t lay a finger on my body.
“Lee Yoonwoo, look at me. Are you okay?”
His worried face appeared in my vision. If it weren’t for this situation, I would have fully savored this sweet sensation. I would have deeply etched that gentle expression, with his drooping eyes, into my heart.
“…I’m fine.”
My legs trembled. I barely managed to stand upright, but my vision was still spinning. I held back my pheromones, and held them back again, until my stomach churned as if I was going to throw up.
“I’m fine, so… don’t call an ambulance.”
“What?”
This wouldn’t do. How much effort had I put into hiding that I was an Omega, and I couldn’t show such a disgraceful sight in front of everyone. How had I endured the past five years?
“There’s no need to call an ambulance.”
“Your body is…”
Choi Taegyeom opened and closed his mouth repeatedly, as if he was going crazy. At his appearance, uncontrollable emotions kept rising within me.
“I’ll go to the hospital.”
Because of you, I can’t give up.
“I’ll go to the hospital, so…”
Choi Taegyeom’s worry was heavy. It was too intense for a friend, and I was scared to expect anything more. He looked like he was worried to death, yet he couldn’t even touch me for fear of hurting me. That’s why I felt hope, and that’s why I was disappointed.
“Please take me.”
It was like clutching at a straw. I raised my powerless hand and gripped the fabric of his clothes in front of me. Tight, Choi Taegyeom’s gaze persistently followed my clenched hand.
“Please, take me.”
My cheeks stung. The heavy silence felt like it was gripping my throat. Gulp, someone swallowing. Someone else was sighing. And, a low, sinking gaze.
“Please, Dohyun.”
Snap, Choi Taegyeom’s pheromones cut off.
For me, a heat cycle was just a time when my pheromones became a little denser than usual. I didn’t experience an increase in libido like others, nor did I lose my reason like others. A little suppressant and frequent smoking. That was enough to avoid it.
“It is indeed a heat cycle.”
The doctor, with a cold face, delivered the death sentence in a businesslike voice. This was the result of waiting two hours for blood tests and an ultrasound. It wasn’t unexpected, but my vision darkened.
“I’ve never… had it like this before.”
“Like this, you mean…?”
The doctor turned his gaze from the chart to look at me. His moderately dry eyes seemed to calm my anxious heart a little.
“Like, my body reacting, or becoming sensitive to alpha pheromones, or losing my reason, things like that.”
“What you’ve described are the basic symptoms of a heat cycle.”
The doctor pushed up his glasses. Perhaps because he wore thin-rimmed glasses, his already cold impression felt even chillier. Fidget, fidget, as I clasped my fingers together, the doctor’s expression softened slightly.
“In the patient’s case, since you’re quite recessive, it’s highly likely that your heat cycles have been weaker than others.”
Then, the doctor began to speak in a calm voice. It was information I was already well aware of.
“Since the pheromones themselves are weak, even when a heat cycle comes, there’s a limit. If other Omegas are at 50 normally and 100 during heat, the patient is at 10 normally and 40 during heat, for example.”
The doctor used his fingertips to indicate the levels. His right hand went up to his nose, and his left hand pointed a little below that. It meant that even if I had a heat cycle, my pheromones would be weaker than other Omegas.
“What’s a bit strange is that your pheromone levels have suddenly risen…”
On the monitor the doctor was looking at, there was a graph showing my pheromone levels. The black line seemed to be the average pheromone level, but the fluctuating red line occasionally soared far above the average.
“Do you happen to have, say, a dominant Alpha nearby?”
As soon as I heard the question, Choi Taegyeom came to mind. So I nodded, but then another face came to mind.
“I have two.”
Kim Dohyun would be waiting outside the examination room. He had personally called a taxi, brought me to the hospital, and despite being told to go back, sat in the waiting area. While I was undergoing all sorts of tests, he seemed to be reading a magazine provided in a corner.
“Two?”
The doctor frowned with a slightly surprised expression. Well, it’s true that Alphas and Omegas make up less than 30% of Korea’s population, and among them, dominant Alphas are particularly few in number, so it’s not surprising to be surprised.
“If there are two dominant Alphas… it must be due to Alpha pheromones.”
The doctor, having concluded on his own, nodded. His sharp eyes beyond his glasses looked at me.
“Hormones are greatly influenced by pheromones. Constant exposure to Alpha pheromones would have drastically pulled forward your heat cycle. What’s your usual cycle?”
“Um, about once every four months…”
“Four months?”
The doctor’s face crumpled. The doctor, stroking his chin with the hand holding the pen, tilted his head.
“How does a cycle like that occur?”
I knew my cycle wasn’t normal. While others experienced it once a month, I alone experienced it once every four months. I also knew this wasn’t healthy.
“Excuse me, that.”
But my own thoughts and the doctor expressing his bewilderment were different. A sudden surge of anxiety made me open my mouth cautiously.
“…I took suppressants frequently.”
“Suppressants?”
The doctor asked back in a calm voice and nodded. When I replied yes, his unenthusiastic voice added an explanation.
“Suppressants nowadays aren’t very harmful to the body. Well, unless you take them daily…”
“I took them daily.”
“…What?”
It truly was an awkward situation. Even from his slight reaction, I could tell the doctor was going to scold me.
“How many times a day did you take them?”
“Twice. Morning and evening, twice each.”
“You could get into serious trouble doing that!”
Sure enough, a shrill scream burst out. It was a sharp voice that made me flinch and hunch my shoulders.
“Suppressants, as the name suggests, suppress pheromones. You only use them when you absolutely can’t have a heat cycle at an urgent time, or when a heat cycle is actually coming.”
The doctor spoke quickly, then picked up the chart he had put down. Flip, flip, the way he turned the pages was very aggressive. Among the many unidentifiable figures, the doctor pointed to one that was marked as above average.
“This is why suppressants shouldn’t be sold in pharmacies…”
No, he had just said a moment ago that suppressants weren’t very harmful to the body. I wanted to retort, but as someone already guilty of suppressant overdose, I had to remain silent.
“Even weak pheromones will run wild if they’re not released and accumulate. Because the patient took suppressants every time, a heat cycle that should have come every month came once every four months. And with a dominant Alpha nearby, it’s natural for pheromones to run rampant.”
I only learned today that hormones are affected by pheromones. I knew my suppressant intake method was wrong, but I never thought it would have a major impact on my body. And I didn’t know that accumulated pheromones, unable to be released, could run wild.
“Have you had sexual intercourse with an Alpha?”
“No.”
The doctor let out a light sigh and put down the chart. His expression seemed to say, ‘What have you been doing not having sex at this age?’
“Accumulated things need to be released to get better. Don’t just hold it in; have sex with your partner. Since you’re recessive, you probably won’t get pregnant, but if you’re worried, use contraception carefully.”
Have sex with my partner. How am I supposed to have a relationship with a partner I don’t even have? Perhaps sensing my expression, the doctor looked at me with a puzzled look.
“The person waiting outside, aren’t they your partner?”
“They’re just juniors from school.”
