Lick Me Up If You Can Novel (Completed) - Chapter 199
Koi stared blankly at the other person’s face for a moment. Seeing his expression, the man frowned his beautiful brows, crossed his arms, and leaned back in his chair.
“What’s with that look? Are you saying I’m trying to trick you?”
“Oh, no, that’s not what I mean, but…”
I’m an Extreme Omega? What on earth does that mean?
He couldn’t understand it at all. Not just an Omega, but an Extreme Omega? Does such a thing really exist in the world? And that’s me?
No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t accept it. He could somewhat believe it if it were the man in front of him. The man’s appearance was so unreal, and it made sense that he was the very rare species he had briefly learned about in school.
But that’s me?
Seeing Koi still speechless, the man suddenly raised his hand. A staff member immediately approached, and he ordered a cold beer. A moment later, the man downed the beer in the glass in one go, then set the glass down on the table with a rough thud, and spoke.
“Didn’t you think anything when you smelled pheromones from yourself? You haven’t never had sex before, have you? If you’ve slept with someone, you would have definitely blossomed, and your Omega scent would have been overflowing everywhere, wouldn’t it? And if you still believed you were a Beta, then you’re either crazy or deficient. Am I wrong?”
The man, who had spewed out harsh words without hesitation, stared at Koi with a terrifying gaze, as if daring him to refute. Koi had no idea why this man was so angry. Was there a reason why he absolutely had to be an Extreme Omega?
As Koi just watched him silently, the man, who had glared at him for a while, suddenly sighed, “Hoo.” To Koi, who flinched at the sudden change, he spoke in a somewhat softened tone.
“If you don’t believe me, then fine. That can happen.”
Soon after, the man stood up. As Koi looked up in surprise, the man looked down at him and continued.
“Take care. We probably won’t meet again. Anyway, it was nice to meet you.”
He turned away without hesitation. Suddenly, Koi’s heart sank. He felt like he shouldn’t let him go. The strange familiarity he had felt at first suddenly turned into a sense of emptiness. As the silver-haired man in the long coat walked further away, Koi grew restless. Unconsciously, Koi stood up and hurriedly followed him. All he could think about was stopping him.
“Hey!”
Koi cried out desperately, reaching out his hand. Almost simultaneously, he grabbed his arm and, looking at the man who had turned around, said urgently.
“I… I can’t smell.”
The man’s eyes widened in surprise. Koi continued to speak.
“I injured my head when I was little, and after that, I couldn’t smell well. That’s why I couldn’t feel your scent at all. I’ve never felt any scent from myself either…”
Koi gasped for breath, having poured out his words. The man stood there for a while, looking at Koi’s face.
The two sat facing each other in silence, just looking. Koi fidgeted nervously, while Angel observed him with a serious expression, arms crossed.
“Hoo,” it was the other person who first lowered his guard. The man put five sugar cubes into his still hot coffee and brought it to his mouth. Koi wasn’t particularly surprised this time, as he had seen him order a quadruple espresso.
“So.”
The man put down his teacup and began.
“You’ve never smelled any pheromone scent before? Not even from others?”
“Yes.”
As Koi nodded, the man, who had been stroking his chin as if lost in thought again, said, “Good.” He then stood up, and when Koi quickly tried to rise, he raised a hand to stop him.
“You wait. I’ll be right back.”
Koi had no choice but to obey the firm command. Even though they had just met, he somehow felt a trust that the man wouldn’t lie to him and run away.
Koi awkwardly sat back down and waited for him anxiously. Contrary to the word ‘soon,’ the man didn’t appear for quite a while.
Surely, I wasn’t tricked?
Just as his suspicion was solidifying into certainty, the man returned. The moment Koi saw the tall, slender man walking confidently, his thin coat fluttering, he involuntarily let out a sigh of relief.
“Did you think I ran away or something?”
At the man’s words as soon as he sat down, Koi blushed with embarrassment. But the man, as if uninterested, placed the item he had brought on the table and said.
“It’s hard to find a place that sells this, you see. I barely managed to buy it.”
What the man had brought was a can. Koi looked at the unfamiliar can label in confusion, when the man pulled a can opener from his pocket and pushed it, along with the can, towards Koi. To Koi, who awkwardly held both items, he gestured with his chin and commanded.
“Open that. Don’t worry, it’s just food.”
Koi hesitated, then did as he was told and opened the can. Inside the can was fish. When he looked up, the man, his face greatly contorted, was leaning back in his chair as far as possible, and spoke.
“Smell it, get close.”
Koi tilted his head, then again followed his words and brought the can to his nose. He thought he could faintly smell something unpleasant, but it wasn’t unbearable. Koi flared his nostrils demonstratively and sniffed repeatedly, then looked up, and the man asked.
“How is it?”
Koi looked at his greatly contorted face and answered honestly.
“It smells a little bad, I think, but I’m not sure. What is this?”
“It’s herring.”
As soon as he answered, the man raised his hand. The staff member, who had approached readily, paused for a moment, and the man, holding his nose, pointed at the can Koi was holding.
“Please throw it away. Thank you.”
The staff member took the can without a word and turned away, but his steps quickened as if he were speed walking. The man, who had been looking at the still bewildered Koi, slowly took his hand off his nose. He checked the lingering smell around him, grimaced, and let out a small curse.
“Let’s talk outside.”
The man stood up first and pulled Koi’s arm. Koi hurriedly stood up and followed him out of the building, feeling an inexplicable sense of relief. The man stopped a short distance away, took a deep breath, then finally relaxed his face and turned to Koi.
“So many people try to trick me, you see.”
All the aggression from before had completely vanished from him. Before Koi could say anything, he spoke.
“I’m sorry, I spoke too harshly earlier.”
Koi was surprised to see him apologize so readily. The man’s tone still lacked any warmth or gentleness, but there was no longer the feeling of blaming or cornering the other person as before. He continued in a calm voice.
“Given that reason, it’s natural to be mistaken. We, well… it’s not easy to figure out our designation.”
The latter part was mumbled lowly, like an aside. Koi silently watched him, then gathered his courage and carefully spoke.
“Um, about what you said earlier… Is it really true? That I, I mean…”
“That you’re of the same kind as me? Yes, you are.”
He said it with such conviction. How could he be so confident when he said tests don’t even show it? As if he had read Koi’s thoughts, he continued.
“I told you, didn’t I? We can recognize each other. Don’t you? Don’t you feel anything looking at me?”
He asked much more carefully than before. After confirming Koi’s disability, his attitude had noticeably changed. Koi felt relieved and answered honestly.
“I, I also… felt it. When you looked at me earlier, I felt somehow comfortable and familiar…”
Then, the man’s lips relaxed, and a smile slowly spread across his face. Koi was mesmerized by his jewel-like sparkling green eyes and gently curving lips. He was so beautiful that he felt a sense of sacredness.
To Koi, who stood blankly, he extended his hand first. Koi hesitated, then took it, and the man lightly shook his hand, holding Koi’s hand tightly.
“Nice to meet you.”
“…Me too.”
Even though they knew almost nothing about each other, a strong bond lingered between them. Koi felt overwhelmed with emotion and spoke.
“I’m Connor Niles, you can call me Koi. And you… Um, may I ask your name?”
To his careful question, he opened his mouth. A low, whispering voice flowed out.
“Everyone calls me Angel.”
