Kiss Me if You Can Novel Completed - Chapter 97
Everyone expected Seth to come up with something plausible this time too. Isaac, while thinking it was fortunate that he participated in the bet, also felt anxious about what he would say. Mark, too, thought that Seth’s words couldn’t necessarily be the correct answer, but he prayed that he wouldn’t say it was a job change. Finally, Seth opened his mouth and spoke.
“One vote for ‘He’s in a relationship.'”
“What?”
“In a relationship? With whom?”
“Not a job change?”
Henry, Isaac, and Mark almost shouted at the same time. Seth winced, frowning, then continued.
“This is my thought. Why would he keep wandering outside, even using work as an excuse, rather than being with us? And why wouldn’t he tell us the reason? If he was going to change jobs, he would have told us first, Mark. Not notifying us about something so important doesn’t fit Josh’s personality.”
“Right?”
Seth, averting his gaze from a brightening Mark, continued calmly.
“It’s not like Josh is sick or has a problem, he seems more energetic than before these days. Plus, some of the women on set seem to have fallen for Josh, so it’s not impossible that he’s dating one of them. Maybe it’s an even deeper relationship than we think.”
Seth shrugged one shoulder and added.
“I’ve actually seen Josh being confessed to.”
“What? Confessed to?”
“So? What happened?”
As Mark and Henry followed up with questions, he answered with an indifferent expression.
“What do you mean, what happened…? I think it was one of Naomi’s assistants. Josh rejected her right there, and that was the end of it. It was private, and I didn’t want to embarrass either of them, so I haven’t said anything until now.”
“That’s probably not the only thing that’s been caught, there’s probably more,” Isaac said, and Mark agreed.
“Josh would totally do that. Oh no, Rose will be disappointed.”
Everyone knew that Rose, who worked in the office, had been hot for Josh. It would be a big shock just to know Josh was an omega, but if she found out he even had a lover in the meantime, she might fall ill. To avoid any potential disruption to work due to reduced commissions, everyone had agreed to keep this fact a secret within the team. So, it was entirely possible for others who couldn’t imagine Josh was an omega to be hot for him.
“Maybe they’ll think it’s just a casual romance on a business trip,” Seth said, and Mark also nodded. This was also a possible idea. But just as everyone was about to agree, Isaac objected.
“But Josh always puts Pete first, doesn’t he? He’s never even had a casual one-night stand until now. So suddenly, a casual relationship, considering Josh’s past, doesn’t make sense.”
“Hmm, that’s true too.”
Mark once again agreed with Isaac. Henry ignored them and turned to Seth.
“So, you’re betting on ‘Josh is in a relationship’?”
“Yes.”
Seth nodded. He rarely participated in such foolish bets. But his participation today wasn’t just because it was a small pastime that arose out of boredom. His colleagues were all good-hearted and had many strengths, but one thing, their ‘gut feeling,’ was terrible. They were all equally bad, no one stood out.
Missing an opportunity to win money from suckers is what fools do. And Seth was not such a fool. Henry, who was also one of the members with a bad gut feeling, hesitated for a moment and then wrote something in his spot.
<He’s gambling behind our backs.>
That’s really not it.
The other three simultaneously thought the same thing but said nothing. No one seriously thought they would win money with this. Except for Seth.
That’s why he loses money all the time.
Seth thought, looking at Henry with disdain. It was truly bitter that the constant sucker at the gambling table was his colleague.
“But, if he’s dating, who could it be? The other person.”
Isaac hesitated and asked, and Henry scoffed, chiming in.
“Yeah, if you get that right too, I’ll double the pot. Does everyone agree? Huh?”
Mark and Isaac also nodded. Since Seth had no intention of extorting his colleagues’ money to that extent, he named the least likely person.
“C.”
“What? Miller?”
“That C? The one I know?”
“You bastard! Can’t you be serious?”
A chorus of shouts erupted simultaneously, and Seth finally gathered his belongings and left. From behind, jeers continued to pour towards Seth. He walked on, bathed in the long-remaining sunlight. Suddenly, a silly laugh escaped him.
Chase Miller, I went a bit too far, didn’t I?
Completely unaware of the gossip that had taken place, Josh returned to the lodging late that evening. Henry eagerly waited for a chance to ask him about the bet’s outcome but missed his timing, and when he woke up the next day, Josh had already left for work.
