Kiss Me if You Can Novel - Chapter 63
He silently scooped potato salad into his mouth, and the peanuts embedded in the soft potatoes broke with a crisp sound. He tried to savor the taste slowly, but it didn’t work as intended. ‘So this is what it means for something to melt and disappear in your mouth,’ Chase realized for the first time.
What should I do?
He covered his mouth, blinking his wide eyes. His ears were burning, and his face was flushed.
What should I do?
It was hard to breathe, so he took several deep breaths. Just as he managed to calm his breathing, Josh returned. He placed the newly grilled steak on the bed tray and smiled.
Ah.
Chase suddenly looked up at Josh blankly. Josh’s shirtless upper body still bore the marks of Chase’s bites and licks from last night. With his reddish neck, collarbones, and chest, and nipples that hadn’t yet subsided, Josh smiled at Chase, revealing everything.
“We were a bit rough last night, weren’t we?”
At that moment, Chase realized the true nature of the emotion that was making his heart pound so fiercely.
“What’s wrong?”
Josh tilted his head. Chase wanted to immediately pull him into a hug and shower him with kisses, but the bed tray blocked him. If he prevented Josh from eating the freshly made food, Josh would be disappointed.
It was impossible for Chase Miller to have such thoughts, but he didn’t even realize it himself. He just couldn’t deny that his chest was so full that it was hard to eat anymore.
Josh reached out to Chase, who was barely catching his breath. He brushed back Chase’s stray hair and asked again,
“Are you okay? Should I get you something to drink?”
Chase just shook his head. Josh, bewildered, still didn’t lose his smile.
“Then will you keep eating? I have a shift change soon, so I need to leave.”
In his words, while checking his wrist watch, Chase struggled to regain his composure.
“Leave? Where?”
“I told you, shift change. I have to go back to my quarters.”
Josh said with a smile, then tried to pick up his clothes. Chase grabbed him.
“Don’t talk nonsense, stay here.”
“What are you….”
“Don’t go, damn it!”
Josh thought he was still joking. But Chase’s face, as he looked at him, was completely devoid of humor. He was serious. The hand gripping Josh’s arm tightened, making Josh frown. But Chase paid no mind and asked,
“Then what, damn it! Are you ashamed of sleeping with me?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Josh sighed at Chase’s aggressive reaction.
“Whoever I sleep with is my private life, and I have no intention of advertising it to others. Why should I go around telling other people about something like that? Besides, if this gets out, I’m the one who’ll be bothered. Do you want me to be chased by paparazzi and terrorized by fans like you?”
Chase paused. The light faded from his face, and his expression darkened instantly.
“I can protect you.”
“I’m the one who protects you.”
Josh quickly snatched the words. A heavy silence filled the room. Chase, who had been silent for a moment, spoke.
“Then change the bodyguard schedule.”
“What?”
Josh, startled by the sudden proposal, asked, and Chase said sarcastically,
“If you want to do your job and satisfy my desires too, there’s no other way, is there? Is there another method?”
“No, that’s…”
Josh was about to say that changing the schedule arbitrarily would be difficult, but seeing Chase’s stubborn face, he was reminded of Pete.
‘Why do they only resemble each other in things like this?’
“Is there a way?”
Chase gnashed his teeth, pressing him again. Of course, there wasn’t. In the end, Josh surrendered.
“…Okay, I’ll go meet Mark and talk to him.”
“…”
“I’ll be right back, so let go of this.”
He pointed to the hand that was still tightly gripping Josh’s arm, and only then did Chase loosen his grip. Josh rubbed the tingling spot and looked at him. Pete’s face inevitably overlapped with Chase’s, and Josh could only smile.
“Oh, for goodness sake.”
With a wry smile, he stroked Chase’s head as he would Pete’s. Chase frowned, but he didn’t shake off Josh’s hand. Instead, he awkwardly touched the spot where Josh’s hand had been.
It was when Josh took off the jeans he was wearing and picked up his own pants lying on the floor.
“…Huh?”
He turned his head at Chase’s unconscious gasp of admiration.
“Why?”
Chase frowned, then began to sniff around. He turned his gaze to the still bewildered Josh and suddenly reached out. He pulled Josh into a tight embrace, inhaled deeply, then raised his head.
“Why do you smell like an omega?”
Josh’s heart almost stopped. In his wide, startled eyes, Chase’s complex expression came into view. He was revealing all sorts of unexplainable emotions. With a face that mixed all those inexpressible feelings directed at him, Josh quickly made an excuse.
“I ran out of ingredients earlier, so I went to the restaurant, and there were a lot of omegas there. I thought it was full of pheromone scent, so it must have soaked into my clothes.”
Josh even smiled, as if asking him to believe him. Chase quietly looked up at him. There was no room for doubt. He had poured out so many pheromones, there was no way only this much scent would remain. If Josh were an omega, he would have gone into heat and poured pheromones all over Chase by now.
Suddenly remembering the woman who had poured pheromones on him at the party, Chase felt disgusted. ‘Josh being an omega is absurd,’ he thought, and readily let Josh go.
“Go.”
“Okay.”
He said lightly, then quickly put on his clothes and left the bedroom. This time, he didn’t stroke Chase’s head or kiss him. The remaining Chase began to cut and eat the cold steak, piece by piece. Strangely, he couldn’t taste anything.
‘Joshua can’t be an omega.’
That was a very obvious fact. It was more rational to assume that his head was messed up from accumulated pheromones.
But what if he keeps pouring out pheromones like this?
A sudden thought made Chase stop eating.
‘He might mutate Joshua.’
Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine. If Joshua mutated into an omega because of him, wouldn’t Joshua hate him?
His vision blurred, and Chase panted roughly, desperately trying to calm himself.
‘That won’t happen.’ He repeatedly whispered to himself. ‘Absolutely not.’
‘Mutation doesn’t happen that easily.’
Haa, haa. Haa, haa.
When his scattered breathing calmed and he somewhat regained his composure, he faintly heard the trailer door open.
“Joshua?”
Chase raised his pale face and looked towards the door. He will appear soon. He would reassure him. He would inhale his unique scent, not pheromones, to his heart’s content. Today, he would hug him and fall asleep…
Chase’s face gradually brightened in proportion to the approaching footsteps. He was still smiling brightly even when the person finally stepped into the bedroom. However, when he couldn’t resist and tried to hug Josh, he froze, his smiling face fixed.
The man who had entered the bedroom without hesitation spoke with a smile as bright as Chase’s.
“Hey, Chase. You’ve been doing well, my beloved brother.”
Chase murmured, his face completely drained of color.
“Grayson.”
That was the end of it. He could say nothing else, only stare at him.
