Kiss Me if You Can Novel Completed - Chapter 49
For a moment, Chase was so dumbfounded that his face involuntarily twisted.
“Isn’t that too cheap?”
It was clearly a joke anyway. That man had never been serious for a moment. Thinking that, Chase felt displeased again. But Josh remained relaxed. He held the cigarette between his fingers and said with a smile.
“I think your kiss is worth enough.”
“Stop talking nonsense…!”
At Chase’s words, gritted through his teeth, Josh blinked in surprise, then gave a strange smile.
“If that’s not enough, what else will you give me?”
His tone subtly changed. At that moment, Josh seemed like a seasoned playboy to Chase. As proof, Josh narrowed his eyes at the corners and whispered seductively in a deeper voice.
“Shall we sleep together?”
“…”
Chase couldn’t answer immediately. He should have cursed and gotten angry right away, he regretted much later. But at that moment, far from getting angry, Chase felt an intense temptation to accept it. Probably anyone would have thought the same. Chase was certain.
His heart thumped dully. Should he nod? Should he say yes?
Should he declare that he would sleep with him without even doing such a thing?
He saw Josh tilt his head. Chase thought he would kiss him, but he was wrong. He moved the cigarette in his hand to his lips, then brought his empty hand to Chase. Fingers that softly traced his cheek moved to his ear.
At the cold, firm touch of his fingers gently brushing against him, Chase shivered. He wanted to say it was due to the cold, but Chase knew it wasn’t. Josh’s eyes narrowed. The way his hand slowly caressed his earlobe and then his ear, back and forth, was significant.
This man is a Beta.
Chase thought. He couldn’t leave a mark. Neither he nor this man could do that to each other.
Nevertheless, Chase inadvertently imagined it. This man marked him.
At that moment, his vision blurred, and his heart began to pound like crazy.
When Josh leaned in and his lips approached, Chase thought he would leave a mark. And finally, he would be able to possess this man.
“Oh.”
As he quietly closed his eyes, Josh suddenly let out a short exclamation. Surprised, he opened his eyes and saw Josh readily pulling away and looking up at the sky. At the same time, Chase heard the loud sound of a helicopter.
“I thought it would be at least tomorrow afternoon, but we’re lucky,” Josh said with a genuinely bright smile. Chase looked back at him in bewilderment, but Josh seemed completely uninterested, turning and moving quickly.
“Here, here!”
Josh pulled out a flashlight from the trunk and waved it towards the sky. The helicopter, which had been flying slowly over the field, stopped above their heads. A ladder descended from the helicopter, and Josh quickly grabbed and secured it before turning back to him.
“You go first.”
Josh quickly returned to his old self. Chase couldn’t help but feel a sense of emptiness, but he pretended to ignore it. He slowly got out of the car and looked up at the helicopter, which was hovering noisily above his head. It was his own, always uselessly abandoned in the garden behind the mansion.
Josh held the ladder from below to make it easier for him to climb. His arms ached from the rough vibrations of the swaying ladder, but Josh didn’t show it.
After confirming that Chase had climbed about two-thirds of the way, Josh put his weight on the ladder.
“…Ouch.”
A sharp pain spread through his arm, and Josh winced with a small groan. He must have a fever. By then, Chase seemed to have almost reached the top.
Josh quickly climbed onto the ladder, found his balance, and took a deep breath. Soon after, he began to climb the ladder like crazy, faster than ever before.
“Crazy bastard, is that even human? Why is he so fast?”
Henry, watching from above, clicked his tongue. Isaac, sitting in the cockpit, simply waited for him without speaking. Mark, who had been tense and ready to pull Josh up as soon as he arrived, widened his eyes like Henry when he saw him approaching instantly.
“Josh, ju—”
When he hastily reached out his hand, someone else grabbed Josh’s arm and pulled him up first. It happened so suddenly that there was no time to stop it. Mark watched in surprise as Josh almost flew into the helicopter. Moreover, Josh landed directly in Chase’s arms.
Mark wasn’t the only one surprised. Henry, Isaac, and even Laura watched them with wide eyes. But Chase paid no mind, instead hugging him tightly. As if he wouldn’t give him to anyone.
It didn’t end there. He glared around with a fierce gaze and gritted his teeth.
“Don’t you dare touch him, you bastards.”
“…”
Everyone was so flustered they lost their words. No one knew what the problem was. Only Chase was acting strangely.
What did we do wrong?
Mark looked around with a bewildered face, and Henry and Laura simultaneously shook their heads. As if to say, ‘We don’t know.’ Only Josh knew the reason. Of course, he hadn’t expected Chase to react so sensitively, but he still needed to smooth things over.
“Ah. Thank you, Mr. Miller. I’m fine now.”
Josh said, embarrassed, trying to push him away. Chase’s face hardened, but Josh pretended not to notice and turned his gaze to Mark.
“It took longer than expected, but thankfully everyone is safe. What happened to Seth?”
“He’s being treated. Fortunately, the bullet just grazed him… We’ll talk more when we get back… Josh?”
Suddenly, he called his name with a flustered expression. Josh blinked in confusion.
Why is he like that?
It wasn’t just Mark. Henry, and even Laura, seemed flustered and were saying something. The problem was that none of it reached his ears. He couldn’t even hear the loud helicopter noise.
But among them, Chase was the most pale. After seeing his ashen face, Josh lost consciousness.
