Kiss Me if You Can Novel Completed - Chapter 32
As soon as they got out of the car, Isaac was dragged away by Mark. Henry was also taken. Seth, who was guarding the mansion, looked at Josh as if asking what was going on, but there was no time to explain.
Josh didn’t remember how he got back to his room. He had been barely holding on, but now he was at his limit. As soon as he closed the door behind him, his breath hitched, and heat surged through his entire body. He immediately rummaged through his luggage, pulled out the medicine he had hidden deepest, and practically ran to the adjoining bathroom.
With every breath, Chase’s pheromones, clinging to his skin, seemed to enter his body. His rationality rapidly fled in moments, and his mouth became parched. He hastily turned on the faucet in the sink. Without time to cup cold water in his hands, he brought his mouth to the tap. His Adam’s apple bobbed loudly as he gulped down water, but the heat didn’t subside. Josh immediately swallowed the pills he held in his hand.
When was my cycle due?
His temples pounded. He tried to recall vague memories, but he couldn’t think straight. It would be a disaster if Chase’s pheromones stimulated him and brought his cycle forward, just like that day.
I didn’t expect to be covered in pheromones so suddenly.
Hoping the medicine would take effect soon, he hastily stripped off his clothes. He had to wash off the pheromones on his body quickly. Otherwise, he felt like he would immediately go out and search for someone to spend the night with. Of course, that was absolutely unacceptable.
Josh turned on the shower and slumped to the floor. As cold water poured over his entire body, he instinctively shivered, but it was better.
When a moment of rationality returned, and he let out a trembling sigh, he suddenly realized there was someone else there besides him.
“…?”
He slowly raised his gaze and froze. A man with surprised eyes stood looking down at him through the open door.
It was Seth.
“…”
“…”
For a while, neither of them spoke. Josh gasped for breath, merely staring at him. Countless words seemed to float in his mind, but all the words wandered aimlessly, and not a single useful one appeared.
Seth was the first to regain his composure. He blinked a few times, then opened his mouth, but it took him a moment longer to make a sound.
“Ah, um… I was going to ask what happened at the party…”
No matter how big the incident was, it wouldn’t be as surprising as what was happening before his eyes. His expression said it all. Josh barely swallowed the saliva in his mouth. The sound of his Adam’s apple bobbing echoed unusually loudly in the awkward silence. Seth cleared his throat, “Ahem,” and finally spoke.
“Are you okay? Should I tell Mark you’re not feeling well and resting in your room?”
“Why? My head just hurts a little.”
Josh tried to feign ignorance, inwardly wincing at his abnormally hoarse voice. But Seth replied in his usual businesslike manner.
“You smell incredibly strongly of pheromones right now.”
Josh froze. Looking down at his hardened face, Seth continued indifferently.
“What happened? You usually barely smell at all. Did you miss your medicine, or is your cycle due? If your cycle’s come, I can’t help you, and I’ll sleep somewhere else.”
He laid out the solutions too calmly. Josh, blinking in confusion, swallowed again. This time, his mouth was so dry that nothing went down. Seth spoke instead of the tangled Josh.
“I accidentally saw the medicine in your bag.”
“…When?”
To Josh, who barely managed to speak, Seth frowned as if recalling a memory.
“Three, four years ago?”
That long ago.
Josh was speechless for a moment, his mouth agape. Looking down at him, who was blinking blankly, Seth continued.
“There’s no need for me to tell you that I know, just like you don’t need to tell me that you know I’m an alpha.”
He spoke a little more than usual. Of course, he was right, but that didn’t lessen the shock. Josh tried to collect himself and opened his mouth.
“Besides you, who else knows?”
Was all his effort in vain? Surely not everyone knew.
If they did, how ridiculous must I have been acting all this time?
Just as he felt inwardly disheartened, Seth said,
“It’s probably just me, so don’t worry.”
“How can you be sure?”
At his suspicious question, he replied calmly.
“If Mark knew, he wouldn’t have brought you here. He would have been selective about the clients he took. Isaac is dense, so he wouldn’t know, and Henry…”
Seth shrugged.
“He doesn’t care about others, does he?”
Every word was so true that Josh was speechless. To Josh, who was just blinking silently, Seth readily offered a solution.
“It’s best not to come out today. I’ll sleep in an empty room. I’ll tell Mark you have a cold, so just know that. Okay?”
Josh nodded, still feeling dazed. Seth, who had nodded back and was about to leave, suddenly remembered something and asked, “Ah.”
“How long is your cycle? Should I take my luggage out?”
“No, it’s fine.”
Josh barely managed to collect himself and answer.
“It’s not my cycle, it’s because of C’s pheromones. I took medicine, so I’ll be fine after washing and resting.”
“Alright, that’s good.”
And then he was about to leave. Josh hesitated, then opened his mouth again.
“Seth.”
Seth turned his head at the call and blinked. Josh spoke with difficulty.
“Is it okay? Even if I’m an omega.”
Seth tilted his head.
“What does it matter?”
“Well, I mean…”
“Hmm,” Josh scratched his head.
“Originally, in this industry, omegas are a bit avoided. Because things like this happen.”
“That’s true.”
Seth said plainly, as usual.
“But you’re you.”
To the bewildered Josh, Seth continued casually.
“Is there any member as reliable as you? Mark has to oversee everything, so if something happens, he usually steps back first. Isaac is diligent but weak in improvisation, and Henry… he’s too fickle, isn’t he? It’s not easy to control him either.”
He frowned for a moment, then relaxed.
“You’re quick-witted, good at shooting, and good at hand-to-hand combat, so I feel much safer.”
“Uh… thanks.”
Josh blushed, feeling embarrassed. Seeing him, Seth added,
“And it’s very convenient for hunting.”
“…”
“After work, let’s stop by Miami and have some fun. Show off your skills for the first time in a while.”
He chuckled briefly and was about to leave. Josh asked unconsciously,
“What about your girlfriend in Boston?”
Seth paused for a moment, then answered without turning around,
“We broke up.”
Before he could apologize, Seth left. Left alone, Josh sat blankly and blinked. The heat still lingered, but the medicine seemed to be taking effect, as it no longer tormented him like before. He barely stumbled to his feet and let out a trembling sigh.
That was close.
How fortunate it was that Seth was the one who found out. This was truly something to thank God for. Under the shower, Josh washed his body longer and more carefully than usual, letting the cold water pour over him. He rubbed shower gel on himself countless times, just in case even a tiny bit of pheromone remained.
When he finally came out after a long wash, he truly felt as if he had a cold, shivering all over. He rummaged through the cupboard, took out some cold medicine, swallowed it, and unable to endure the sudden wave of fatigue, he collapsed onto the bed and immediately fell asleep.
