Kiss Me if You Can Novel Completed - Chapter 29
He called again, but Josh’s voice sounded distantly far from Chase. Yet, in reality, it was as if he had spoken right beside him. His temples pounded, and his mouth felt dry. His heartbeat seemed to echo right in his ears. Dizziness and a headache combined, making it impossible to open his eyes. Finally, Chase closed his eyes with a faint groan.
“Mr. Miller!”
Josh called his name again. Barely opening his eyes, he saw Josh looking down at him with a worried expression. Only after realizing his gaze had shifted did Chase finally realize he had slumped to the ground.
“Get off.”
Chase violently pushed away Josh’s outstretched hand, which was trying to help him up. Josh immediately backed away.
Chase quickly glared at him with bloodshot eyes and roughly got up. But that wasn’t a good choice. His vision went black, and a heavy dizziness enveloped him. He collapsed forward.
“Mr. Miller!”
He looked as if he was about to hit his face on the ground. In the midst of extreme dizziness, Chase briefly wondered whether to cover his face or not. Soon after, he realized it was a meaningless worry. When he opened his eyes, Josh was holding him, supporting his head, and looking down at him.
“Mr. Miller, should I call an ambulance? Will you be alright?”
Josh asked again. Chase slowly blinked. He belatedly realized he was half-lying, half-leaning on Josh’s lap. But he didn’t even feel like getting up. All he could do was move his lips.
No.
“What did you say?”
As his voice faded, Josh brought his ear closer. Josh’s soft, brownish-blond hair tickled Chase’s nose. Gritting his teeth, he barely managed to answer.
“It’s fine.”
At his low words, Josh raised his head. Chase found himself staring blankly at his face. As the unfocused gaze turned towards him, Josh felt uncomfortable yet worried.
He quickly looked around, but there was no sign of anyone. Josh hastily tried to contact Isaac or Henry, but no one responded. He could no longer deny that both of them had simultaneously left their posts.
Are these bastards crazy?
He rarely cursed, but he did so now, then contacted Mark.
“Mark, can you hear me? It’s Josh. Mark!”
[…Uh, …because, …it’s.]
The connection was bad. Josh suppressed his frustration and left a message instead, then quickly turned his attention back to Chase.
Haa, haa. Haa, haa.
His breathing was rougher than before. The pheromone scent emanating from his body also grew stronger. Josh had suspected it, but his bad premonition was probably correct. Chase was clearly in heat. The faintly flushed cheeks, the cold sweat on his temples, and his gasping breaths were undeniable proof.
If you’re going to pull out, do it properly.
Josh once again felt pathetic for Chase, given the pheromone scent that clearly indicated he had been with an omega just moments ago. But he couldn’t waste time. More importantly, Chase’s pheromone scent was getting stronger and stronger. At this rate, he would be swept away too. He absolutely had to prevent that.
Hesitating, Josh glanced down at his waist. As expected, his front was bulging.
He’ll be in pain if I leave him like this.
Even in his dazed state, Chase struggled to push Josh away. Josh grabbed his hand, which was slipping as he tried to grasp his shoulder, and looked down at Chase.
“Mr. Miller.”
He spoke as calmly as possible. As if nothing was wrong, as if to reassure Chase. But it didn’t work on Chase.
“Let go, you son of a bitch.”
Enraged by Josh’s refusal to let go of his flailing hand, which was filled with fear and disgust, Chase raised his other hand and punched him in the face. There was a thud, but the relief was momentary.
Oh.
“Mr. Miller!”
Josh cried out, grabbing his shoulder and pulling him close. He almost slipped and hit his head on the ground. However, thanks to Josh’s narrow save, Chase’s face collided with Josh’s firm shoulder. He felt no pain. His entire body was flushed, and his senses weren’t properly transmitting.
Chase felt only one sensation. Every single cell was screaming. He gritted his teeth at the maddening desire. The scent of pheromones continued to linger at the tip of his nose.
This can’t be.
Chase vaguely thought amidst the nauseating dizziness.
That scent can’t last this long. Why does the pheromone scent keep coming?
The culprit was obvious. His brain must have been messed up by the pheromone scent. Otherwise, how could the scent still be there? Only he and this man were here, and this man was clearly a beta. Chase gritted his teeth with conviction.
My crazy brain must still be perceiving the scent, even though it’s not actually there. Omegas always mess with alphas’ minds.
That omega, I’ll kill him.
The sound of his teeth grinding echoed ominously. But Josh wasn’t afraid of Chase, who was leaning his head on his shoulder, trembling faintly, and gasping for breath. He only felt sorry for him. How often did extreme alphas show such weakness? Along with a feeling of pity, he thought, Perhaps I’m feeling this way because this man is Chase Miller.
“Mr. Miller.”
Josh shook his head hard to clear his mind, which kept blurring from the pheromones, then spoke as calmly as possible.
“I think it would be best to release some pheromones. It seems time is short to call someone right away, so may I help you?”
“Help… with what?”
Chase stammered between gasps. Josh hesitated for a moment, then hardened his resolve and reached out his hand.
“Here.”
He deliberately grabbed him by the front. Chase sharply gasped and threw a punch. It was amazing reflexes, even in this situation. But this time, Josh barely managed to dodge it.
“Oops.”
He couldn’t save Chase, who had rolled to the ground again, but he barely prevented him from hitting his head. Josh quickly reached out his other hand to support his head. Because of that, Josh’s hand hit the ground instead, but that was nothing. The problem was that Chase immediately threw another punch at him. This time, Josh easily caught it.
Bloodshot eyes glared fiercely at him. A chill ran down his spine. Josh barely suppressed his ragged breathing, which was rough with excitement.
“Are you alright?”
Josh felt Chase tremble faintly at his question. Unable to suppress his anger, he opened his mouth.
“You fucking… bastard, how dare you…”
“Yes, I dared to touch my client’s genitals. I apologize.”
Even to himself, his tone sounded completely unapologetic. The explicit language made it even more so. But that wasn’t important. Josh focused more on calming Chase down.
Chase was now trembling all over, as much as his voice trembled. Unable to contain his excitement, he gasped for breath and thrashed his body. Because of that, Josh lost his grip on him.
A painful groan scraped from deep in Chase’s throat. Josh reached out to him again, but Chase pushed him away.
“Don’t touch me, you damned bastard. I’ll kill… you. I’ll kill you!”
He was barely able to speak, yet he gritted his teeth in fury. Josh tried to soothe him, but Chase was stubborn.
“Get lost, get away! Can’t you hear me, you damn bastard? I’ll beat you to death!”
With veins bulging in his neck, Chase screamed and tried to get up and leave. But his body wouldn’t obey his will. He collapsed forward, clawing at his chest and gasping for breath as if it would break. He really looked like he was about to die. Despite that, he stubbornly resisted any touch, and Josh finally lost his patience and blurted out,
“What will you do if you lose consciousness from pheromone buildup like this?”
The reaction was immediate. It was the first time Josh had seen Chase’s face harden like that.
Ah, second time?
Josh suddenly thought. The way he had groaned in pain and talked in his sleep that day subtly overlapped with his current face. Hiding the bitter feeling at the sight of Chase, who was gasping for breath and trembling faintly, Josh continued calmly.
“I don’t know what happened, but in your current state, you won’t be able to hold out for long. If you don’t want my help, should I look for the person you were with earlier? I don’t know if it’s possible within the time limit, though.”
That was all he could offer. Seeing the omega’s scent still lingering, they must have been together just now, so finding them would be easy. Persuading them wouldn’t be difficult either.
He thought simply, but Chase’s reaction was completely unexpected. He bit his lip with a pale face, unable to speak. His gaze was still fixed on Josh, but it was far from a glare. Instead, his trembling eyes, as if frightened, bewildered Josh.
“Mr. Miller?”
At the cautious tone, Chase seemed to snap back to his senses, startled. Josh wanted to give him time to choose, but he knew he couldn’t give him much. The strong pheromone scent that had been enveloping the surroundings for a while was also making his own rationality precarious. He might end up on top of Chase. That absolutely couldn’t happen.
As he instinctively frowned, Chase gritted his teeth and covered his eyes with both hands.
“Damn it…!”
A curse escaped his clenched teeth. Josh looked down at Chase, who was now lying on the grass, and checked once more.
“May I help you release it?”
Chase didn’t answer. He saw him biting his exposed lip hard. Josh wanted to press his jaw to make him release it but held back. There was no time for other thoughts. After reconfirming that no one else was around, Josh turned his gaze back.
He swallowed hard once, then brought his hand to Chase’s lower body. One hand still supported Chase’s head.
Chase just lay there, biting his lip. Was this man used to being served?
Probably.
