Kiss Me if You Can Novel Completed - Chapter 19
Josh firmly believed that, but at the same time, his heart felt uneasy. He tried his best to look him directly in the eyes with a calm expression, and Grayson moved the hand that had been on Josh’s neck to his chin.
“That’s strange.”
Grayson, who rudely held his chin and turned his face this way and that, frowned for the first time.
“Have Betas all collectively been exposed to radiation lately, or why don’t they look like Betas?”
Josh said nothing and roughly pushed his hand away. Grayson let out an absurd gasp of “Ouch,” then grinned.
“They say the prosecutor who went against Nathaniel this time was also a Beta. You guys are from the East, too, right? Did you see the picture? Wow, to be a Beta with that face, isn’t that a scam? What’s in the East?”
He even whistled and bantered, but Josh didn’t laugh. Seeing him just quietly staring at Grayson, the man narrowed his eyes.
“Are you really a Beta?”
“If you’ll excuse me.”
Josh tried to leave to avoid unnecessary conflict. But Grayson wouldn’t allow it.
“Wait.”
He stopped Josh with a single word. Forced to stop, he looked up at Grayson again. As if asking him to state his business.
Suddenly, a sweet fragrance was felt. Grayson’s eyes changed to gold. This was the second time Josh had seen an Extreme Alpha’s eye color change. Josh already knew the meaning. Grayson was pouring out pheromones. But Josh showed no reaction.
“It seems so.”
After pouring out useless pheromones like a waterfall, he shrugged and smiled.
“No matter how much medicine you take, there’s no way I wouldn’t smell it. And no reaction to pheromones either.”
Grayson hummed and stroked his chin thoughtfully.
“Either an Extreme Omega or…”
The way he subtly trailed off made Josh feel ominous. He inadvertently swallowed dryly, when another voice suddenly cut in.
“Why would an Extreme Omega be here? They’re hard to see even once in a lifetime.”
He turned his head and saw Isaac standing there with an unpleasant expression. Grayson, who also turned his head, chuckled, “Indeed.”
“Has my brother come down?”
Isaac answered curtly to the question, which immediately changed the subject.
“Yes, he left in the car you came in.”
“Oh, thanks.”
He gave another insincere thank you and turned away.
Watching his receding figure as he followed Isaac’s guidance, Josh belatedly felt a chill. What if he hadn’t been marked? Josh secretly clutched his pounding heart. He would surely have been exposed.
For the first time, he was grateful for the mark Chase had left. Josh would not be swayed by any pheromones other than that man’s. Unless another Alpha left a new mark on Josh.
But if Chase had poured pheromones on me, I would have immediately gone into heat.
A shiver ran down his spine again. Josh only then realized his hand, which was brushing his forehead, was trembling slightly.
After calming down somewhat, Josh headed to the monitor room and soon ran into Mark. Mark, who immediately noticed his poor condition, asked suspiciously,
“What’s wrong? Did something happen with that guy who came earlier? Isaac was saying something strange.”
“Something strange?”
Josh asked back, puzzled, and Mark replied quickly.
“That bastard tried something weird with you, didn’t he? Pouring pheromones on a Beta, what kind of behavior is that? What if something bad happens? Anyway, those Extreme Alphas…”
He clicked his tongue and shook his head in disgust. Josh paused, then spoke.
“Have they left already? Both of them?”
“Yeah, a while ago.”
Mark said nonchalantly.
“You know where they went, don’t you? That famous orgy party.”
Of course. But Josh was curious about something else.
“What about the bodyguard?”
Mark nonchalantly repeated what Grayson had said.
“That brother of his said it was fine, and C was making a fuss about us not needing to come, so what could we do? We just put a tracker on him and sent him off.”
“Haa…”
Josh let out a deep sigh. If something happens, they’ll blame us again.
Suddenly, he wondered if Chase was intentionally trying to make them suffer. If tormenting others was his hobby, he would certainly be capable of it. And Chase was definitely the kind of man who would do that.
…But he went with Grayson.
He didn’t know if that was a good thing or not. He should have been relieved, but he felt uneasy. Chase’s brother, whom he had met for the first time, seemed suspicious in every way. It was rare to see a man whose intentions were so transparently dark. Moreover, he didn’t seem to be trying to hide that fact.
Chase seemed to dislike that man.
While there were as many things he disliked as there were stars in the universe, Grayson Miller was clearly a particularly detestable presence among them. So why had he followed so docilely? As if terrified, like a rabbit before an anaconda.
Chase Miller, a rabbit.
Just as Josh was momentarily shocked, Mark said,
“The problem is after they come back. I hope he’ll be in a good mood.”
At Mark’s long sigh, Josh also said nothing. Usually, people feel better after sex, but in Chase’s case, he couldn’t fathom what would happen. He could only hope that man, too, would be like the general case.
He had heard that getting marked stabilizes pheromones and reduces danger. But that was only if the person who marked him continuously provided help. At the very least, they should stay by his side and provide psychological stability, but who would continuously stay by that man’s side, and more importantly, would anyone even exist who dared to mark that man? Josh found himself shaking his head.
No matter how much he thought about it, that bastard’s temper was a complete negative for Chase. But since he was so distinguished, he probably didn’t think he was doing anything wrong.
Suddenly, Grayson’s smiling face and his low, whispering voice came to mind.
What on earth happened in that house?
A shiver ran down his spine.
It was past midnight when Chase returned. The anxious security team, seeing his tracker heading towards the mansion, had already been waiting. Unlike when he left, Chase returned in a dignified sedan.
“Mr. Miller!”
As soon as the sedan stopped in front of the mansion’s entrance, Mark hastily opened the car door and called out to him. At the same time, a strong scent of pheromones wafted towards Josh, who was standing at a distance. Josh unconsciously crunched the candy in his mouth.
Chase, visible through the open car door, was completely drunk and out of his mind. He couldn’t even open his eyes and occasionally mumbled something, looking clearly drugged to anyone. The expressionless man who got out of the driver’s seat confirmed that fact.
“He took a lot of drugs at the party, so he’s almost unconscious. He should wake up after a few days of sleep, so please take good care of him during that time.”
It was almost a given for Extreme Alphas to take drugs or ecstasy at parties. But seeing Chase in such a state, Josh felt conflicted. Perhaps it was because his last memory was of Chase’s face.
“What kind of drugs did he take? …It won’t be harmful to his body, will it?”
When he asked cautiously, everyone looked at him. Josh hastily added,
“Just in case there’s a problem, we’d have to call 911 immediately.”
Mark clicked his tongue, and the man who had brought Chase spoke.
“There’s no way this much would cause a problem. As you know, Extreme Alphas aren’t affected by drugs or alcohol… He did overdose compared to others, but he’ll be fine. He does this a lot every time, and I heard he usually takes a lot.”
Then, he got back in the car and drove away. The remaining people picked up Chase and quickly headed to his bedroom. Josh followed behind them.
A cool air hung in Chase’s bedroom. Josh paused, sensing an empty atmosphere, like a room no one used. The wall where Warhol’s painting had hung was bare. All the lavish decorations were gone, and all that remained were the bed and a side table. Josh knew best how all those things had disappeared.
“Oops.”
Mark placed Chase on the bed and stretched his back. Isaac and Seth pushed Chase to the center of the bed.
The scent of pheromones permeated from his entire body. Josh felt a strange difference from usual. Chase’s scent was completely mixed with the scent of other Extreme Alphas. However, Josh was the only one who noticed the difference.
“There must have been a lot of Extreme Alphas at the party.”
When he casually let the words slip, Mark replied nonchalantly.
“Well, I guess so. It was that kind of party.”
“The scent is strong.”
Isaac muttered to himself and shook his head. Seth also rubbed his temples, as if he had a headache. Everyone grumbled about too many pheromones clinging to them, but no one actually distinguished the scents. Only Josh distinguished Chase’s scent from the others.
Is it because of the mark…?
Josh unconsciously stroked the earlobe covered by his earbud.
Everyone gathered around the bed, looking down at Chase sprawled on it. His shirt was completely crumpled and out, with some buttons undone or missing, revealing his body. It was fortunate that his pants were still on properly. Josh felt an urge to comb his disheveled golden hair with his fingers. Fortunately, before his hand impulsively reached out, Mark spoke.
“Well, nothing much will happen, so shall we leave?”
In his words, everyone moved. Josh, who had entered last, also left last this time. When he finally looked back, Chase was tossing and turning, mumbling something unintelligible.
He felt his condition was strange about two hours later. Josh, who had taken over and was watching the CCTV monitors throughout the mansion, suddenly paused when he saw Chase’s bedroom.
Chase still seemed unconscious. He was definitely drugged, but despite that, he looked uncomfortable. His constant tossing and turning was unusual.
Josh hesitated for a moment. There would be nothing he could do for him in that state. Moreover, he was probably releasing pheromones wildly, out of his mind, and there was no telling what might happen if he approached him carelessly. Since he had taken drugs, his condition would be even worse.
Jumping into an obvious danger was something only a fool would do. He carefully watched the screen and fell into thought for a moment.
What’s wrong with a grown adult having a bad dream? He’ll be fine soon.
But when he saw Chase curl up and writhe on the bed as if in pain, Josh suddenly remembered the small child who had reached out his hand to him. And the sight of him crying from a nightmare.
<Daddy.>
Pete.
