Kiss Me if You Can Novel Completed - Chapter 131 (Completed)
Emma tried to object, but her mother grabbed her arm, and she failed. Reluctantly being pulled out, she added a warning.
“I’ll be in the hallway, so call me if anything happens, Jack. Josh, if you bother Jack, I won’t let you off the hook.”
“Josh wouldn’t do such a thing to his benefactor, would he?”
His mother chided, as if dumbfounded, and pulled Emma out. Emma seemed to say something unfair, but the door closed, so the details weren’t heard.
The hospital room suddenly became quiet. In the tension, Jack kept trying to avoid Josh’s gaze, looking elsewhere. But since he wasn’t running away, it seemed he was prepared to talk to Josh. After watching him for a while, Josh spoke.
“What happened? Tell me the truth, it’s just the two of us here.”
He spoke in a quiet voice, but still, Jack hesitated to answer. Jack, who had been dawdling, finally managed to speak after a long time.
“I accidentally overheard them plotting, but I never thought they’d actually go through with it. I had a hunch, and then I saw them really go into the storage room…”
“You saw it from the beginning?”
Josh’s voice involuntarily sharpened. Jack flinched, then apologized in a subdued voice, saying, “I’m sorry.” Josh let out a bewildered gasp, “Huh.” Jack seemed to have nothing to say and again fell silent, at a loss. Josh irritably tried to run his hand through his hair, then belatedly noticed the IV drip in his arm and paused.
An IV drip, he never thought he’d see the day he’d need one.
Dumbfounded, he silently looked down at his muscular arm, then let out a short sigh and spoke as calmly as possible.
“But why did you stay silent? Were you waiting for something to happen to me?”
“Oh, no. It wasn’t like that. That’s absurd, it really is.”
Jack frantically shook his head, denying it. To Josh, who was waiting for an answer, he spoke with difficulty.
“It’s just, there were too many of them, and I couldn’t possibly be alone…”
His next words were completely unexpected.
“Besides, I thought you wouldn’t want anyone else to see you like that.”
Josh was inwardly surprised. He only realized it after hearing his words, but it was true. However, to just stand by and watch was also absurd. Josh, who had been lost in thought for a moment, felt a headache coming on and spoke.
“So you waited for it to end?”
“No, I thought it would be better to call the sheriff, but then you bit that bastard’s neck!”
Suddenly, Jack’s voice rose. Josh flinched at his excited eyes and clenched fists. Jack continued to speak rapidly.
“Actually, I thought you might be able to handle it alone. But just in case you were in danger, I was hiding and watching, thinking I’d call someone. And sure enough! Wow, those guys must have peed their pants. Everyone was trembling, it was so satisfying!”
Mixing in clumsy curses, he tried to express his excitement and admiration for Josh. Josh was momentarily flustered by the unexpected reaction and lost for words. When he regained his composure, Jack was pacing the hospital room, mixing praise for Josh with condemnation for the cowardly guys. Seeing him even swinging his fists in the air, as if he couldn’t contain his excitement, Josh was momentarily dazed.
“Wait, okay. I get it, calm down a bit.”
He belatedly soothed him and got him to sit in a chair, but he couldn’t think of anything to say. Looking at Jack’s ordinary, freckled face, flushed with excitement and staring at him, Josh paused and then spoke.
“You thought I could handle it alone?”
“Yes.”
To him, who nodded vigorously, Josh asked, half-believing, half-doubting.
“Didn’t you see me collapse from the pheromones?”
“I did, but.”
Jack replied without hesitation.
“Whether you’re an Omega or whatever, you’re Josh Bailey.”
“…”
“You would never lose to those idiots.”
Jack’s shining eyes showed absolute trust in Josh. Seeing him like that, Josh was speechless.
“…Okay.”
After a long time, Josh spoke.
“Okay, thank you.”
Only then did he slowly smile, and Jack also beamed. When Josh extended his hand, he shook it joyfully.
“It’s a shame you quit playing quarterback, but you’ll be cool no matter what you do.”
Seeing him express even respect, Josh smiled for the first time at the weakling he had always ignored.
“Of course.”
With a final goodbye, Jack left the hospital room. Emma, who entered a moment later, perhaps having heard something in the hallway, said nothing much. Her faintly flushed cheeks suggested a connection to Jack, but Josh pretended not to notice.
“Well then, we’ll be going now. If you need anything, tell Emma.”
His mother kissed Josh’s cheek and smiled. Emma also said goodbye to him and left the room. Left alone, Josh lay there for a moment, lost in thought. He would have to get used to this body from now on. He had become an Omega, and he would experience many unexpected things.
Just then, the door opened, and a nurse entered. After confirming that the IV fluid was empty and connecting the next injection, she spoke.
“How are you feeling? Are you doing okay?”
Josh smiled back at her.
“Yes, of course. Thank you.”
The smile on the nurse’s face deepened. Josh had a casual conversation, thinking.
It doesn’t matter.
When he mentioned that he would soon turn eighteen and was currently single, she gave a peculiar smile.
“You and I have one thing in common, I’m single too.”
With that, she lightly stroked his muscular arm where the injection was. Josh let her be and just smiled instead.
News of Josh’s hospitalization reached even the middle school. Teachers, and even classmates he had never spoken to, asked Emma about Josh.
Even so, Josh prefers older women.
Emma secretly pouted. Until now, Josh had frequently changed girlfriends, but they were at least his age or one or two years older. She didn’t know if there were cases where they were even older, but as far as Emma knew, there wasn’t a single younger one.
In fact, in her opinion, Josh wouldn’t even bother with childish middle schoolers. She wanted to yell at everyone to wake up, but she held back and, as her mother had instructed, went to the hospital where Josh was admitted after school. She had been told to go and check on him in case he needed anything.
If he needed anything, he’d call.
Emma walked down the hospital corridor, looking at her phone, which had been silent all day. Although they usually bickered, seeing Josh lying in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly pleasant. Moreover, Jack and Josh seemed to be hiding something. But since they weren’t being honest, she couldn’t pry.
I’ll be nice to him for a while.
Emma resolved. After all, thanks to Josh, she had gotten much closer to Jack. When she unconsciously opened the hospital room door with a relaxed expression, she understood why he hadn’t called her even once.
“Oh, Emma.”
“Emma, welcome.”
“Hi, Emma.”
The blonde girl standing to Josh’s right greeted her, Josh waved, and the brunette leaning on his left acknowledged her. Emma stood frozen with the door open, observing the scene in the room.
What in the world…?
As Emma stared silently, unable to speak, Josh spoke.
“They came to visit. This is Sam, and this is Kitty.”
“When I heard Josh was hospitalized, I just couldn’t stand it.”
“You wouldn’t believe how worried I was, and now there’s no one to nurse him, is there?”
Kitty whispered suggestively with her last words.
“Why don’t you leave it to me?”
Since Josh had broken up with his previous girlfriend and this situation had immediately followed, he would naturally be single. The calculation was clear. But she wasn’t the only one who had thought of that calculation.
“Josh, I’m on the school health committee. I can even wear a nurse’s uniform for you.”
Sam said sweetly, trying to kiss Josh, when Kitty violently shoved her shoulder. Sam, caught off guard and pushed back, quickly regained her balance and glared at Kitty.
“What was that for?”
“Get lost, I was here first. I’m more suited for Josh than you are. Right, Josh?”
“How dare a blockhead like you, it’s ridiculous. You don’t even have any classes with Josh?”
“Oh, right, you have an A in grades, so your chest is an A too?”
“You!”
Emma, unable to stand it any longer, shouted as the two seemed about to grab each other’s hair and fight.
“What are you doing in a hospital? If you’re going to act like this, both of you get out!”
The two, who were about to ignite, paused for a moment. They were angry, but they couldn’t make a scene in front of Josh. Sam, who regained her composure first, spoke.
“Well, what’s the point of us doing this anyway? The choice is Josh’s.”
“What are you going to do? Who do you like better, Josh?”
The two began to appeal to Josh in their own ways.
“I learned belly dancing last semester. How about a performance just for you as a discharge gift?”
“Josh, you missed Mr. Thompson’s class, didn’t you? I’ll summarize it for you. I can do it today. Shall we start now, just the two of us? After sending her out.”
“You have nothing to offer but studying, you poor bookworm.”
“I’m smart. I can take care of Josh’s physical condition, not just his studies.”
With that, Sam gave a suggestive wink and reached for Josh’s lower abdomen. The moment Kitty’s face turned grim, someone suddenly spoke sternly from behind Emma.
“Practicing medicine without a license is against the law.”
At the appearance of the real nurse, the two panicked and got off the bed. She looked at them both with a calm face, then immediately walked towards Josh. After checking his IV and making some notes, she looked down at Josh.
“How are you feeling, Josh?”
Emma and the other girls were surprised by her voice, which was incomparably gentler than before. But Josh smiled casually and replied.
“I’m good. Thank you, Christine.”
At that, the nurse smiled and meaningfully patted his shoulder, then turned away. Looking back one last time, she gave a wry smile of exasperation at the young girls who were staring at her.
Soon, the hospital room door closed, and Sam and Kitty looked at each other’s faces. Again, they were on the same page. This was not the time for them to fight each other.
“Josh, let’s do this.”
Sam spoke. Kitty also nodded and continued.
“The three of us date, how about it?”
“Huh.”
It was Emma who let out a dumbfounded exclamation. What was so great about that scoundrel anyway? To the two who were looking at Josh expectantly, Josh spoke.
“That won’t work.”
Right, he should have that much common sense.
Just as Emma thought to herself and nodded, Josh shook his head seriously.
“I’ve tried it before, and the results weren’t good.”
…What was I expecting?
Completely disgusted, Emma turned her back and left the hospital room. Behind her, Sam and Kitty’s loud voices began to clash, and soon the room turned into a battlefield.
When Josh was discharged after the scheduled week, the girlfriend by his side was neither Sam nor Kitty nor the nurse. And everyone who saw Josh and his new girlfriend had the same thought.
This too shall pass.
Nothing had changed at all. Except for the fact that he occasionally had to take medicine on schedule. At least once his pheromones had somewhat stabilized, he was no longer swayed by scents as before.
Emma still chased after losers, and Josh’s girlfriends changed endlessly. He had presented as an Omega, but it had no effect on him. Josh still loved his life. So he didn’t hide the fact that he was an Omega either. Until he became a bodyguard.
“I have a good job opportunity.”
One day, when Mark spoke, everyone rejoiced, their eyes shining. Mark also continued to explain with an excited face.
“The contract period is short, but the pay is double, no, triple. You won’t find such a windfall again. This is all thanks to me working hard to secure the job.”
“Wow. That’s amazing, Mark.”
“How much is triple? Damn. I’m going to Las Vegas!”
“Who pays triple? Is the work not hard?”
As Isaac, Henry, and Seth spoke one after another, Mark nodded.
“Well, it won’t be easy. It’s a famous actor.”
Is it an actress? As Josh thought to himself, Mark declared.
“It’s Chase Miller.”
