“Hold on, everyone, calm down. No, don’t come out there! Hey, hey! Look out there!”

The bodyguards struggled desperately to hold back the surging crowd. They were accustomed to controlling fans at such events, but today was different. Of course, they knew the reason and had prepared for it. It was because of the top star who was scheduled to arrive soon.

He had received immense attention upon his debut, enough to shake all of North America, and since then, he had built a strong fanbase each year. In recent years, his acting skills had also been recognized, and he was truly enjoying his prime, a peak period.

It was common to hear people say they would do anything just to see him once in their lives. In fact, an SNS post threatening to rob a bank to get his attention briefly caused a ridiculous incident. Therefore, the news of his attendance at the event was enough to throw the area into chaos.

But to this extent.

The bodyguards hired for the event had hoarse voices from shouting, frequently making raspy sounds, and even coughing. Despite their efforts, people constantly broke through their guard and rushed forward whenever there was an opening. They were completely overwhelmed, holding back the surging crowd from the front while also watching out for the hyenas trying to slip through the gaps.

I wish this time would pass quickly.

All the bodyguards had the same thought in their heads. Invited guests were arriving one by one, but the most important face had yet to appear. It would be better if he just came quickly, took a few pictures, and went inside. Wouldn’t that make things better?

Beyond their fervent wishes, the gathering crowd was steadily increasing.

“Two hours should be enough time to stay.”

Laura, his secretary, calmly continued beside him.

“They’d like you to expose this watch. Just casually brushing your hair back or something similar should be enough. They said it was specially designed for Mr. Miller. Do you like it?”

Laura glanced sideways, gauging his reaction. The man, who had been motionless until then, for the first time lowered his gaze to look at the jewel wrapped around his wrist.

The watch, themed after a desert night, attracted attention with its elegant design and the brand’s characteristic intricate craftsmanship. The sparkle of the diamonds that circled the dial on the hour was particularly eye-catching. He slowly opened his mouth.

“Not bad.”

That was all. Laura smiled awkwardly. The man turned his gaze back to the window. Even though the heavily tinted window would show his face more clearly than the scenery outside, he always fixed his gaze out the window like that.

It must be much more interesting to look at his own face than the scenery.

Laura admitted he was a narcissist, but also thought he couldn’t help it. She had been working as his secretary for several years, yet she often froze as if electrified when she saw his face. Unfortunately, this was only true before he showed his temper.

Laura was always grateful that he spoke little, sometimes not a single word all day. If he hadn’t been like that, she would surely have run away long ago, unable to endure his temper.

Chase, leaning against the door with one hand propping his chin, slowly closed his eyes. Thanks to this, Laura could freely admire his profile. His pale face, which seemed slightly tired, had clear shadows along its elegant bone structure.

Even before she was hired as his secretary, she had worked for other actors and seen countless stars, but Laura had never seen anyone as beautiful as this man. He had buttoned his shirt all the way up, covering his long, elegant neck, but despite his neat attire, he looked somewhat disheveled.

His fingernails, resting on his fingers casually draped over his thigh, were neatly trimmed and suited his long, extended fingers well. The first time she saw them, Laura imagined him strangling her with those graceful fingers. Luckily, that never happened.

There wasn’t a single part of the man that wasn’t beautiful. Laura hesitated to use the word ‘beautiful,’ but it was hard to find a more suitable word.

He let out a short sigh, ‘Hoo,’ and opened his eyes. At the same time, Laura returned to reality. The driver informed them they were almost at their destination. Laura, as well as the accompanying bodyguards, immediately tensed up. Now they had to protect this man from that huge crowd. Their lives might even be in danger. But there was nothing they could do.

The car slowly decelerated. Suddenly, he opened his mouth.

“…”

Laura couldn’t make out the low voice. Thinking it was a monologue, she pretended not to hear, as always. Chase also didn’t speak again.

The car, which had been gradually slowing down, finally came to a complete stop. The cheers of the crowd were unusual. Laura took a deep breath and waited for the car door to open.

A bodyguard got out first, quickly checked the surroundings, and opened the door on Laura’s side. She then stepped out and immediately moved aside. People already knew who was about to emerge.

A sweet scent, impossible amidst the surging crowd, mingled in the air. Simultaneously, the cheers of the people intensified severalfold.

“Chase…!”

When she felt as if her eardrums would burst from the near-desperate cries, he finally appeared.

In the pouring California sunlight, the man’s blond hair shimmered dazzlingly. When he stood up straight, the black tuxedo clung naturally to his slender frame, which was nearly 6 feet 5 inches tall, as if it were his own skin.

Stepping onto the red carpet, he surveyed his surroundings once. A hint of fatigue briefly crossed his face, but the man silently raised his hand. His long fingers intertwined with his soft blond hair, revealing the watch on his wrist. The loud clicking of camera shutters poured out as chaotically as the cheers.

When Chase took five steps onto the red carpet, one of the bodyguards, who was struggling to hold back the crowd, was pushed back. And the line, which had barely held, collapsed all at once.
