- Chapter 27.6 - Side story 2 : My Noble Resistance Against Taichi, the Rude, Illegal Occupier - By Lennox Elhime Bendiwind
Suddenly, the quiet mansion became bustling. Martha appeared and went into Mother’s room, and he told Old Man Hugo that a doctor was needed. Hearing that, Eurea grabbed my hand. Normally, she would never have done that, but she seemed scared, so I didn’t pull away. Honestly, I wanted to do the same.
“Father.”
“Lennox. Eurea. Jester? Oh, dear.”
He quickly returned to the kitchen and came out holding Jester. My younger brother, who had just been sucking on his bottle and was then taken away, frowned and was about to cry.
“It’s okay. It’s okay. Just wait a little. Lennox, take Eurea back to your room.”
“What about Mother?”
“It’s nothing serious.”
He went to get a doctor, but said it was nothing serious? He should say something believable. Moreover, the Demon King’s expression as he said it was also serious. Had he put poison in the egg dish? I tried to question him, but Eurea stopped me.
“Brother. Let’s go to the room.”
Worried about Eurea, who looked like she was about to cry, I nodded. He held Jester and took us to our room, then even put Jester in my arms.
“Wait a moment. Here’s the bottle. You know how to feed him, right?”
“Yes.”
“I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere else, wait here.”
His tone and expression were so serious that I suddenly felt scared. Nothing serious is really happening, is it? Eurea climbed onto my bed, but I couldn’t tell her to go back.
While holding Jester on my lap and feeding him milk, I was filled with anxiety. Eurea seemed to feel the same, holding the baby’s hand without saying a word.
The terrifying scream Mother had let out on the day my youngest brother was born flashed through my mind.
Not long after, another bustling sound was heard from outside. I wanted to rush out immediately, but I couldn’t because of my siblings. For now, as the eldest and the first Alpha, I had a duty to protect my siblings.
Jester, who had finished his milk, coughed. Startled, I quickly picked him up and patted his back. Mother used to say he would throw up if I didn’t do this. Jester hiccuped and then threw up.
“Ugh. Brother!”
With my sister’s scream, something warm trickled down my shoulder. Oh no. Too late. Following that, Jester hiccuped once more and threw up again. Eurea screamed, “Is Jester going to die too?!”
“He’s not going to die. He just threw up. Calm down and go to the bathroom over there and get a towel.”
“Mom. Dad. Martha. Hugo.”
Eurea, shaking her head, looked like she was about to run out of the room. At other times, I would have wanted her to quickly bring someone, but now it was difficult.
“Eurea! Calm down!”
When I shouted, Eurea flinched.
“Go get a towel wet.”
“Uh-huh.”
Eurea, looking like she was about to cry, quickly ran and did as I told her. In the meantime, I laid Jester, who had finished throwing up, on the clean floor. There was no dirt other than around his mouth. The problem was my clothes and my bed sheets.
“Brother, here.”
I wiped Jester with the wet towel Eurea handed me. Then I picked him up again and moved him to Eurea’s bed this time. After that, I took off my clothes, found new pajamas from the drawer, put them on, pulled down my dirty sheets, and crumpled them at the foot of the bed.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Babies often throw up, they said. Is he breathing well?”
Eurea stared at Jester for a moment, then nodded.
“No problem. Let’s all sleep in your bed today.”
“What about Mom?”
“Hhe’ll be fine when he wakes up.”
Even though I wasn’t sleepy, I deliberately lay down. After lying down with Jester in the middle and covering us with the blanket, Eurea spoke a moment later.
“Can I hold your hand?”
“Okay.”
Soon, Jester fell asleep, and then Eurea fell asleep, and I kept holding her hand. But I couldn’t sleep all night. I was very worried about Mother.
After a long while, someone opened the door and appeared. I lifted my head sharply and knew it was him. Tears suddenly welled up, and when I called out “Dad,” he approached.
“Was everything alright with everyone?”
“Jester threw up. I couldn’t burp him in time. After cleaning him up, he seemed fine, so I just put him to sleep.”
“Really? You did well.”
A large hand stroked my head.
“What about Mom?”
“He’s fine. I told you it was nothing serious.”
The Demon King’s expression was much better than before. Maybe it really was nothing serious. He picked up Jester and stayed by my side until I fell asleep. Holding Eurea’s hand, I tightly held his hand with my other. I felt no resentment. I was just relieved. I wished he would stay by my side, like a baby. Unfortunately, I was too young and still needed the Demon King.
Early in the morning, as soon as Eurea and I simultaneously opened our eyes, we both, without a word, raced towards Mother’s room. Mother had just woken up, still in his pajamas. His expression was stiff, as if he was having a serious conversation with Father. But he quickly relaxed his expression when he realized we had appeared.
“Lennox, Eurea.”
“Mom!”
Eurea ran first and crawled onto Mother’s bed. Then she frantically clung to his neck and asked, “Are you not hurting anymore?” I was also curious about that, so I quickly crawled onto the bed. Mother, embracing both of us, laughed softly.
“I just need a few days of good rest. My stomach just hurt a little. It’s a bit disappointing, though.”
“It’s not disappointing at all, Mom. You shouldn’t be sick.”
Eurea said what I wanted to say first, so I just clung to Mother’s embrace. But strangely, Mother seemed genuinely disappointed, with a hint of regret. In contrast, the Demon King, holding the youngest one, looked peaceful.
“Haven’t you given up yet?”
“I’ll achieve everything someday.”
At Mother’s firm reply, the Demon King let out a deep sigh. Grumbling about why he was so obsessed with having six children, he then told Eurea and me to go wash our faces. I didn’t want to leave, but I didn’t want to bother my tired mother, so we both meekly obeyed.
As we left the room, I looked back and saw Mother, who had gotten out of bed at some point, hugging the Demon King from behind.
“Are you really not disappointed at all?”
“As I told you before, I can’t live without you. And we have to think about the children who are already born. Let go of your greed now. There’s no need to take unnecessary risks, is there?”
“…Yes.”
Mother, burying her head in the Demon King’s back, nodded. Then he sighed, turned around, and embraced Mother. And their lips met.
“I was happy at first too. But it’s not like the child that was conceived is gone, so don’t be too sad.”
“I’m sorry I got angry earlier.”
“It’s okay.”
Mother nestled deeply into his wide embrace. The Demon King, who continuously whispered something inaudible, led Mother back to bed. After stroking his hair as he did mine, he kissed his forehead and stood up.
“Me too.”
I couldn’t understand what he meant. Instead, he smiled gently at Mother’s words.
Soon it was Mother’s birthday week. The reason it was called “birthday week” instead of just “birthday” was simple: the birthday party lasted all week.
The servants of the house were all busy without exception. They cleaned the house inside and out, and changed all the curtains and tablecloths for the party. The maids, led by Martha, were busy preparing the guest bedrooms, and the footmen, led by Hugo, took out all the silver cutlery and polished them with abrasive. Besides that, there was garden maintenance to do, a huge amount of ingredients to bring in, and many other busy tasks. Of course, Eurea and I were no exception.
“You’ve grown so much. You’ll need new clothes.”
The suit I wore last year was already too small. Eurea’s dress wouldn’t button at the back. Mother had Martha call for a tailor.
“Wouldn’t it be better to go out than to call him?”
“Indeed. It would be better to buy them secretly.”
“It’s going to be discovered anyway, but I think it’s better to delay it a little.”
Mother nodded at Martha’s words. Then she looked at Eurea and me and asked, “Shall we go out later?”
“Yes!”
“Wow! How exciting!”
We jumped up and down with joy. It had been a long time since we went out without the Demon King. When he was with us, we always saw only what was necessary and ate only what was necessary before returning. But without him, it was a different story. We could do anything we wanted, eat anything we wanted, see and hear anything we wanted.
“Please take care of Jester.”
“Don’t worry. The young master will be safe.”
Martha said, looking at Jester, who was playing well in his crib.
Eurea and I, without a word, quickly ran to our rooms and started taking out our going-out clothes.
We rode out excitedly in the carriage. I was a little hungry right before mealtime, but since we didn’t know when the Demon King would return, we decided to go and come back quickly. Of course, we were also planning to eat ice cream and chocolate cake.
This was the third time we had visited this high-end tailor’s shop, but I didn’t remember the first one well. As soon as we entered the shop, a clerk quickly rushed to greet us. Following him, an elderly tailor, like Hugo, appeared. He had a kind expression and greeted us warmly. Then he and Mother began to converse. In the meantime, Eurea and I admired the colorful fabrics and garments hanging in the shop.
“Do you like this fabric?”
The tailor, who had appeared at some point, pointed to the shimmering pink cloth Eurea was touching. When Eurea nodded, he smiled and called a clerk, giving him instructions.
“Is there anything you like, young master?”
“I don’t know. Father said Alphas shouldn’t just wear anything…”
“Is that so? Then shall we choose a fabric that your father prefers?”
At those words, I realized my mistake. Publicly, I was the eldest son of Count Teiwind, an Alpha. Would he recommend fabrics Mother liked? Mother was the most wonderful person I had ever seen, but what suited someone with blonde hair and blue eyes would be different from what suited someone with dark brown hair. Still, I couldn’t say anything and watched the tailor take out fabrics.
The tailor soon brought out several fabrics, most of which were dark navy or dark colors. They were not the kind of things Mother, who preferred bright colors unless it was a black suit, would like. When I looked at him curiously, the tailor kindly added.
“These are the colors Viscount Bendyke prefers. I think they would suit the young master well too.”
How did he know he was my biological father? I was surprised and asked, “How do you know?” The tailor didn’t understand at first, then smiled and said.
“He’s been a long-time customer. Your father has used our shop ever since he graduated from university. Since the young master was born, the Count has also used our shop.”
According to Hugo, the successive Counts had always used a tailor they had traded with for a long time. In my memory, there was only this shop, and the tailor who came to the mansion was always the same, so I thought he was the tailor Hugo mentioned. Why did they change? And to the shop he used.
“They say that once, when your father went to his usual tailor shop, he was treated poorly because his attire was shabby. I don’t know if it’s accurate, as there’s no reason for the Count to be shabbily dressed.”
My sophisticated mother was still so wonderful that many Omegas followed him. But he went out in shabby clothes and was treated poorly by his regular tailor? It didn’t make sense. I needed to find out more later.
“How dare such rude people treat Count Teiwind so carelessly. I won’t let them get away with it.”
“Hahaha, young master, you’re just like your father.”
“Where am I like him?”
“You say the same things as your father. That shop disappeared a long time ago. Ask your father for the reason.”
The Demon King again? It’s too much for him to do everything first just because he’s a bit older and taller! While I frowned, he handed the chosen fabric to the clerk and added detailed instructions.
Mother, who had been talking to another clerk about various things, soon called Eurea and me. And pointing to the fabrics for the tailor, he ordered two suits for me and two dresses for Eurea, respectively.
“Did you find a color you liked?”
“This one.”
“This one for me.”
Mother, seeing what we had chosen, also immediately approved. We were happy to have a total of three new outfits. It was indeed worthy of the Count’s greatest holiday, the Count’s Birthday Week.
