Eighteen’s Bed Novel Completed - Chapter 90
Even after the tutor left, Go Yohan stayed at my house for dinner and even hummed to himself while searching for his belongings in my room.
“You didn’t throw away my book, did you?”
“Surely you’re not talking about that strange comic book.”
“No. I am.”
“…”
Go Yohan was deliberately taking out all the things I hated to see and had shoved into the built-in closet. Then, seeing him arrange those items in plain sight all over my room, I let out a low sigh.
“Just take them all with you while you’re at it.”
“Books? Or clothes? Or the game console?”
“Game, game…”
I was momentarily speechless, standing there bewildered. He had a game console too? Where on earth did he leave it?
“…Take everything.”
After a slight hesitation, I spoke with appropriate firmness. I had to say what needed to be said. Erasing Go Yohan’s traces was the biggest task I had to complete to erase him from my life.
“Is my house your storage?”
Naturally, I expected Go Yohan to refute me. The Go Yohan in my imagination would have. But the real Go Yohan, unexpectedly, answered with surprising nonchalance.
“Okay, got it.”
Then he casually picked up a few books and said,
“Then I’ll just take one a day, right?”
“…”
His words, spoken with narrowed eyes, were truly detestable. So that was his intention. With this excuse, Go Yohan would probably invade my house every day again. It was a mistake to open the door once. I leaned back in my desk chair, chewing on my mistake. In fact, I deliberately didn’t refute him further. I could have said, ‘No, you live next door anyway, just take it all at once,’ but I didn’t.
That was probably thanks to my nature, which couldn’t be firm with Go Yohan. Thousands of words of refusal swirled in my mouth, but I didn’t speak, fearing I would make a mistake if I opened my mouth.
And it was because the sight of Go Yohan in his white summer uniform, revealing his pale forearm flesh as he caressed various parts of my room, put me to the test. Every time Go Yohan unnecessarily raised his hand, his waistline subtly showed.
I wish Kang Jun would die. I wish he would just die.
I lowered my head to stop myself. Then, the gray paper subtly sticking out of my pocket caught my eye. I saw Go Yohan lying on my bed with his eyes closed, and with a desperate feeling, I pulled out the paper. It was indeed an early dismissal slip. But more importantly, it was the information written on the back of the slip.
Just a few hours ago, in the faculty room, I had asked the homeroom teacher. I asked if I could go to an orthopedic clinic because my right wrist sometimes ached. The homeroom teacher readily granted my request, and I then hastily called him again.
‘Um, teacher. That… Could I ask for one more favor?’
‘A favor, what’s wrong? If it’s Jun’s request, I’ll grant them all. What is it?’
‘Well, I might not hear about homework or exam ranges if I’m late.’
‘Why? Should I tell other friends to take care of Jun’s stuff?’
‘No, that’s not it…’
I deliberately dragged out my words, looked down at the floor, and crossed my legs.
‘I, well…’
And when I slowly raised my head, the homeroom teacher had a somewhat crestfallen expression. I thought, Got it. I bowed my head deeper to hide my smile. Perhaps to others, I might have looked like I was sobbing a little. That’s even better.
‘The kids in class don’t really like me these days…’
‘…’
As expected, the homeroom teacher had also noticed. Indeed, the incident in the science lab must have already spread widely throughout the faculty room, and the homeroom teacher had been so meddlesome during the Han Junwoo and Han Taesan incidents, so it was only natural. I paused my words once more and lowered my voice further. The homeroom teacher leaned in closer to listen to my voice. Truly, a kind teacher.
‘So, I was wondering if it would be okay if I asked another friend separately… Would that be alright?’
‘Of course, of course. Who? Tell me everything. I won’t tell anyone.’
Did he do this for Han Taesan too? Probably. Then Han Taesan must have pointed me out back then. I unconsciously sneered. I’m really in the same position as Han Taesan. The situation is a little different, though. Right, I’m willingly standing in this position now. I spoke with a slightly more strained voice, pretending to be hesitant.
‘Jaehyun… he’s really kind.’
‘Jaehyun?’
‘He even took care of me when I couldn’t eat well…’
‘Ah, so that’s why…’
That was all I needed to tell the homeroom teacher. The previous questions about Shin Jaehyun must have been a bigger trigger. So I deliberately acted even more pitiful. I exaggerated an already finished situation to make myself a victim. It wasn’t shameful at all. I just considered it an investment in my future. The more pitiful I appeared to the homeroom teacher, the better. The homeroom teacher was more lenient towards the weak.
To be honest, my wrist wasn’t aching at all; it was perfectly fine. My objective was elsewhere.
The reward I received at the end of that pitiful act. I looked at that reward, then alternately at Go Yohan lying on the bed across the paper. Go Yohan’s breathing was irregular. It was obvious. He was pretending to be asleep. I ignored the playful act, full of demands to be observed, and fixed my gaze on the edge of the gray paper.
