Eighteen’s Bed Novel Completed - Chapter 48
“Hey. Yeah, my stomach rumbled. Happy now? Always so suspicious and unable to trust others, just like a bastard. Always rolling your eyes, wondering what I’m thinking, and you’re doing it again now.”
“Ah, no. That’s not it.”
I reflexively waved my hand. That’s not it. No, but if not that, then what? What would I say after saying that’s not it? Come to think of it, that was even stranger. That I wasn’t looking at his stomach, but between his legs? That I was curious if that was big, just like his hands were big? Damn it. I quickly lowered my hand. And then I smiled awkwardly.
“Ah, you caught me. How embarrassing.”
“Wow.”
Go Yohan shook his head. At the same time, he slowly clapped his hands and bowed his head solemnly, like a general from a drama. What? I frowned with a displeased expression.
“General, thank you very much for readily admitting it.”
“What general?”
“Oh? There is. A stubborn general. Someone like you.”
His face was full of mockery. He was practically teasing me, not just being sarcastic. Furthermore, my face grew hotter with embarrassment. I quickly brushed off my pants and got up.
“I’m going to the bathroom. Where is it?”
“Oh, go out of the room and turn left.”
Go Yohan said, gesturing into the air with his chin. Then he stretched his clapping hands behind him to support his body. He was clearly in a lower position than me, but he looked as if he was looking down on me.
“Don’t go down the stairs, and don’t get lost going somewhere else just because there seems to be a lot of interesting things. Come back carefully!”
“Be quiet.”
I gave the chuckling Go Yohan a quick glare and closed the door. After closing the door, I let out a big sigh in front of it. It was a relief that I had escaped the situation well. In truth, I didn’t even want to go to the bathroom. I just wanted to get out of that situation quickly. Still, since I said I was going to the bathroom, I should go. For a perfect crime.
Left, he said? As I moved, the sound of happy laughter drifted up the stairs. What was that? The room Go Yohan was in had been so quiet. Curiosity arose. My feet automatically headed for the stairs instead of turning left. Go Yohan told me not to go down. I placed my hand on the wall and slowly descended, hearing familiar voices. It was the dining room. I slowly craned my neck to secretly peek at the source of the sound.
“I think I can easily get first place in the specialized high school entrance exam, Mother. My grades are good.”
“Rosa, well, I knew you would. You’re so smart.”
“That doesn’t mean I didn’t work hard!”
In the dining room, there was a loving family. A middle-aged woman elegantly covering her mouth with her hand as she laughed, and Go Yohan’s father whom I had seen before. Go Yohan’s sister smiled brightly, as if she had never looked at anyone with contempt. Rather, she spoke with an assertive posture, as if trying to emphasize her own pride.
“She’s always diligent, never complacent. She doesn’t trust her talent, and she always doubts herself.”
Was that something a middle schooler would brag about? Next to the sister, who was bragging strangely, was a young man. A man with glasses and a high nose. He smiled mockingly, curling one corner of his mouth just like Go Yohan, but he resembled the middle-aged woman next to him more than Go Yohan and Go Rosa.
“It’s a relief that you do well without even being told.”
A blunt voice praised her in a monotone.
“……”
In front of the family was a lavish dining table, and even as they conversed, a woman in an apron was busily moving food from the kitchen. A strange feeling came over me. Memories in my head linked together like chains.
A father who didn’t talk about his children, Go Yohan who didn’t go to an academy, his sister’s contemptuous gaze towards Go Yohan, Go Yohan who hadn’t said anything to me, and Go Yohan’s words I had heard sometime ago.
‘I hate my dad.’
The chains intertwined. I bit my lip. Before I was caught, I quickly turned around and hurried to the living room. Fortunately, there was a wall blocking the stairs, so I probably wouldn’t be seen. The reason I looked around the living room was obvious. There were usually family photos in the living room. I, who was inexplicably certain, quickly scanned between the tables, coffee tables, and cabinets. Then I saw a cabinet with glass doors.
“……”
Inside the cabinet were photos. A photo taken at a high school graduation ceremony caught my eye. The main character was the young man from earlier. The high school sign in one corner of the photo read Sehan High. Just hearing the name, I knew it. The top prestigious autonomous private high school where the children of Korea’s most prominent chaebols attended.
Next to it was another small photo, a childhood picture of Go Yohan’s younger sister. A photo of her smiling innocently under a tree. And another photo was of a couple. Another was a first birthday photo. The name written below it was Go Yo-seop.
Another photo was of an elementary school graduation. And the main character of the photo was clearly Go Yohan’s younger sister, Go Rosa. But strangely, there were no photos of the entire family.
And there were no photos of Go Yohan.
