Diamond Dust Novel - Chapter 22
He said this in a quick tone, as if he would immediately get up and leave as soon as he finished this discussion, yet he continued to smoke after the conversation was over.
Perhaps due to the alcohol, my mind was slow.
I hadn’t expected him to want to hire me as an employee. No, perhaps a part of my unconscious mind had already guessed that it would eventually come to this.
I didn’t know what to make of it. I rubbed away the condensation on the cup’s surface with my finger, due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside, and asked him:
“Could I ask why you suddenly changed your mind?”
“I decided based on Mr. Seo Yihyun’s work attitude and results; I haven’t really changed my mind. Director Han and the staff also want Mr. Seo Yihyun to join.”
“It’s not because you realized I’m not an Omega, is it?”
My brain, slow due to the alcohol, seemed to have lost its sense of direction. I could blurt out questions like that, just as they came to mind, without much hesitation. Considering how much I usually choose my words carefully, this was quite a bold question for me.
Did he suddenly make this offer because he thought I wouldn’t cause many problems since I wasn’t an Omega? Then why did his identification ability, which was supposedly so accurate at distinguishing Omegas, malfunction with me in the first place?
He remained silent for a moment at my question, which might sound presumptuous depending on who was listening, then took two or three quick, consecutive drags on his cigarette.
“Speaking of that, are you truly not an Omega?”
Perhaps due to the light focused on my head and the cigarette held in his fingers, I felt like I was being interrogated by a detective.
“No, I’m not. I was confirmed to be a 100 percent sure Beta in my middle school examination and my pre-enlistment physical.”
“Then what is it?”
Then what is it? Mumbling that to himself, his gaze still fixed on me, he seemed still unconvinced that I was a Beta, or more precisely, that I was not an Omega.
“I told you I’m a Beta.”
“Are you really a Beta? If you’re not a Golden Omega or from a wealthy family, honestly, it’s not an advantageous world for a male Omega to live in, is it? So, if you’re pretending to be a Beta… you don’t have to do that.”
Wind blew in through the open kitchen window. The unfamiliar scent, which seemed to be his perfume, mixed with the cigarette smoke carried by the wind.
He didn’t seem to notice that the ember had burned down right to the filter. He kept staring at me, without even attempting to put out the cigarette. He looked like someone who was hoping I would confess, even falsely, that I was an Omega.
His gray-blue eyes slowly alternated their gaze between my left and right eye, beneath his narrowly squinted eyelids.
Due to the alcohol, my body kept slumping. No, it was slightly different from slumping. It was true that I felt limp, as if all my joints had loosened, but I also felt like I was floating in the air, drifting aimlessly.
I felt both languid, wanting to lie down immediately, and simultaneously uplifted, wanting to get more alcohol. I knew I wasn’t in a normal state.
After gathering my thoughts by drinking some water, I bit and released my lower lip and spoke. I wanted him to give up on this issue now.
“No, I am a Beta. And even if I were an Omega… I wouldn’t have hidden it for the reasons you mentioned.”
He didn’t take his gaze off me for a long time even after that. My body felt increasingly uneasy sitting there, with the sensation of floating like I was drifting on a wave.
Finally, he ground out the cigarette, and as the acrid smoke dispersed, the intensity of his perfume grew stronger. It was so intense it was strange that I hadn’t noticed it at the bar or in the back seat of the car.
It was a complex, almost mathematical, fragrance, difficult to categorize simply as fragrant or unpleasant.
A scent so unique that if I smelled it on someone walking down the street, I would turn around for a second look. A fragrance that subtly caught my attention and drew me in.
“Ha… what am I…”
He said this, shaking his head as if in self-reproach. I couldn’t tell what he was blaming himself for. His scent, which had been lingering under my nose, moved away, perhaps dispersed by the wind coming through the window.
He put out the cigarette, picked up the half-drunk ion drink, and stood up. He told me to consult Director Han if I had any questions about the official job offer, assuring me that she would faithfully assist me. With that final business-like statement, he disappeared through the front door.
Perhaps it was due to the alcohol, but I felt a strong surge of sexual desire. Feeling sexual desire multiple times a day was natural for my age, but it was extremely rare for me.
I stopped showering and caressed myself beneath the stream of water. It wasn’t the usual mechanical masturbation, reaching ejaculation through simple friction and pressure.
I had to lean against the tiled wall, my legs trembling, unable to support myself in the throbbing sexual pleasure that made my entire skin tingle. I felt a sense of fear at the intense surge of desire, a raging ascent of lust that seemed to swallow me whole, transcending both my personality and experience.
Muttering incoherent moans, I was unfamiliar with myself, holding my erection that refused to subside even after one ejaculation, unsure what to do.
Excessive drinking was not only bad for my health, but it carried a high risk of exposing me to sudden sexual urges.
Despite the fact that it was the most intense act I had ever performed, when I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted, the thirst was greater than the relief. I twisted the sheets, then lightly struck them, and cursed out loud for the first time in years.
