Desire Me If You Can Novel - Chapter 8
Ashley, who had been watching his hesitant son in silence, glanced at the watch on his wrist. It was a silent pressure to hurry up and decide, as there wasn’t much time left. Grayson knew all too well that the only person whose childishness his Papa indulged was Coy, the Omega who gave birth to him and his father’s only love. With that realization, Grayson steeled his resolve.
“I’ll do it.”
Grayson swore with a tone more certain than ever before.
“I will endure it no matter what happens. So please, help me become a firefighter.”
Ashley looked at his face without saying a word. As if trying to gauge just how much resolve his son had mustered.
“…Fine.”
After a pause, Ashley gave his response. A faint, cynical smile appeared on his previously expressionless face.
“Should be interesting. Let’s see you try.”
“Thank you.”
Unable to suppress his excitement, Grayson beamed with a bright smile. Ashley confirmed that both his ears were twitching this time. Grayson’s steps as he left the office were so light it seemed as if he might fly away.
This time, it’s real. I can really meet him.
He had dreamed of this his entire life. A partner who would love only him, and to whom he could dedicate his entire life.
Believing that he, too, would surely meet a love that was one of a kind in this world, just like his Papa and Daddy.
“Whoops.”
As soon as he stepped out into the hallway, he nearly collided with a woman passing by. Narrowly avoiding an accident, Grayson held her hand gentlemanly and smiled.
“You almost fell, Wendy.”
“Mr. Miller.”
Ashley’s secretary mirrored the smile on her lips, but her eyes remained cold and hard.
“Did you come to see the Senator? I assume your business is finished.”
“Ah, yes. It went well.”
Wait, she used to be head over heels for this smiling face, but now it was different. Wasn’t it obvious? If a man who acted as if he would give you his liver and gall bladder, claiming you were his destiny, suddenly turned around overnight and breezily said, ‘It wasn’t you. Bye,’ anyone would snap back to their senses.
And after all that, to act so shamelessly friendly.
Of course, since reason tends to return along with anger, it was only natural that her feelings toward Grayson Miller weren’t good. If she knew the reason why this man was smiling so broadly, her stomach would undoubtedly turn even more. Because there was only one cause for Grayson Miller to be in such a good mood.
“Did you find a new destiny?”
“How did you know?”
At Wendy’s question, Grayson immediately burst into laughter. If left unchecked, he looked ready to grab Wendy and shower her with kisses. Wendy was on her guard, but Grayson was a man who—annoyingly enough—kept his boundaries at times like this.
Because you aren’t my fated partner.
…As if to say that, he simply shoved his hands into his trouser pockets and grinned. Wendy barely held back the urge to slap his cheek. After all, this was her workplace and he was her boss’s son, so all she could do was curse him inwardly.
“Congratulations. I hope you’re right this time.”
Run away! Wendy screamed inwardly toward the unknown partner. Whether he was completely oblivious to her inner thoughts or simply didn’t care, Grayson still said “Thanks” with a smiling face and walked away whistling. Watching his retreating figure, walking as lightly as if he were flying, Wendy quickly took out her phone and busily typed a message.
[Looks like Grayson Miller is about to create another victim.]
Less than ten seconds after posting the message, countless replies flooded in faster than she could read them.
[Why? Is he wandering around saying he found his destiny again?]
[Yep. Bingo.]
Messages poured in, filled with shock and anger that Grayson was still pulling this stunt, and condolences for the new victim who would soon appear. Occasionally, curses were posted, but no one reprimanded them for it. Because this was a secret exclusive to this community. As long as Grayson existed, this beautiful alliance would never be broken.
Wendy thought to herself.
Looks like another member will be added to the ‘Grayson Miller Victims Support Group’.
And it seemed Wendy wasn’t the only one who felt it.
[Let’s all give the new person a warm welcome when they arrive.]
Letting out a sigh mixed with sympathy, Wendy looked back again. Grayson Miller was already gone. Please, I hope it’s real this time.
So that he gets dumped miserably.
By the fated partner he desires so much.
“What? Grayson? Really?”
As soon as he heard the news about his beloved second son, Coy’s voice rose with excitement. Nodding his head and saying uh-huh, uh-huh to Ashley’s voice coming from the other side of the phone, he soon let out a proud sigh of “I see.”
“I really hope it’s true this time. He shouldn’t be disappointed again…”
To his words mixed with expectation and worry, Ashley spoke simply.
-He’ll figure it out.
“Uh… Yeah, of course he will.”
Coy scratched his head in embarrassment. Along with the thought that maybe he was being overprotective, as he usually recalled whenever the topic of the children came up. Of course, that was strictly Ashley’s assertion, but since Coy accepted whatever Ashley said unconditionally, it was the same this time as well.
-We just need to give him a moderate amount of support. The rest is up to him.
“Uh, yeah. Right, that’s true.”
At Ashley’s words, Coy nodded anew. Since Ashley was always right, it would be the case this time, too. But watching his son taste failure every time was still a heartbreaking affair.
“I hope it works out well this time.”
Just as he muttered his wish again, he suddenly realized something.
“Wait, then does that mean Grayson came to the East? Where is he now?”
In contrast to his voice, which had risen with excitement, Ashley answered indifferently.
-He must have gone back.
“Already?”
Coy soon slumped his shoulders in disappointment.
“How could he leave without even saying a word to me… I didn’t even know he was here.”
-No use raising them with so much effort, is it?
Ashley asked without missing a beat. He meant that six children were already too many, but Coy took it completely differently.
“The kids grew up too fast. I knew I should have had twelve! Right, it’s okay. It’s not too late, so let’s have six more…”
-What’s for dinner tonight? Do you have anything on your schedule?
Suddenly, Ashley asked. Coy blinked for a moment, saying uh, before shaking his head.
“No, nothing… Huh? Wait? What did you say?”
Soon, Coy’s face flushed hot. But, he stammered, not knowing what to do, before slumping his shoulders again and answering quietly.
“…Okay, then.”
Having received his surrender in an instant, Ashley added leisurely.
-I’ll look forward to it. See you later, Coy.
The call ended with that. Looking down at his phone for a moment, Coy soon shook his head and focused on the new fact.
Grayson has finally found his fated partner!
The fact that he had come all the way to the East and left without even showing his face was incredibly disappointing, but Coy forcibly reasoned with himself. If he missed him, he could just go to meet him. In any case, wasn’t it commendable that Grayson said he would take on such an honorable profession as a firefighter?
Even if the motive is impure…
<That boy harbors too many fantasies.>
Ashley had said that once. Coy agreed with that thought to some extent. It was desirable for Grayson to look at Ashley and Coy and wish to love and be loved like that, but loving someone wasn’t all sweetness. Just as it hadn’t been for them.
But Grayson was looking only at the result, without knowing the process they had gone through, and wishing for the same for himself. That worried Coy, but he couldn’t stop his son, either.
Being immersed in something is a good thing, isn’t it?
Besides, a firefighter wasn’t that such an excellent choice? That alone was enough. Steeling his heart once again, he soon realized a new fact.
I can’t be the only one who knows this news. Naturally, I have to share it with the kids.
