Desire Me If You Can Novel - Chapter 6
Ezra asked Dane with a pale, sickened face, “Why… why is he doing that? Is he on drugs?”
The cause was obvious. It was because of the pheromones, but Ezra, a Beta, would find it hard to comprehend. He knew intellectually that pheromones could be smelled and how they affected Alphas and Omegas, but he couldn’t experience it physically with his own body.
“That son of a bitch…”
Dane spat out a low curse. To release pheromones in a situation like this… he could only assume the man was doing it deliberately to humiliate them. With the fire spreading so fast, to prioritize mocking others over escaping—what a truly disgusting trait.
“Drag him out, even if you have to use force. It’s dangerous to waste any more time.”
At Dane’s command, Ezra and the other colleagues hurried forward. They tried to grab the man quickly, but the naked man only wailed and thrashed about, refusing to cooperate easily.
“Let go, let go of me! Don’t! Fuck, I said let go!”
He displayed a monstrous strength that didn’t match his slender frame. Several people grabbed him as he struggled, but it wasn’t easy.
“Wait a minute, look here! The house is collapsing right now!”
“We have to get out, pull yourself together!”
“Damn it! Just stay still, we’re trying to help you!”
“Grab his arm there, lift him up! No, not there!”
Even with three grown men clinging to him, he didn’t budge. Instead, he hit and shoved the firefighters clad in heavy gear, only adding to the difficulty. There was only one reason this man was going crazy like this. Pheromones.
And the person responsible for making him this way was standing there leisurely, watching the spectacle. As if he were watching a particularly entertaining circus.
Dane felt a deep sense of revulsion at the sight of the man alone wearing a relaxed smile amidst the chaotic hellscape. It was clear this man had done this sort of thing countless times before. He must have found it amusing to watch others go mad and wail because of his pheromones. Seeing him do such a thing even in this imminent crisis, Dane could be certain that this man was rotten to the core with malice.
Whether this was a pastime exclusive to Dominant Alphas and their ilk, he didn’t know, but now was not the time to let it continue.
“Hey.”
At the low voice suddenly coming from behind, Grayson paused. Someone had been standing behind him, hidden by the hazy smoke, without him noticing. Just as he was about to turn around reflexively, the man spoke.
“Don’t bother me.”
The voice sounded like grinding teeth, but that was the end of it. Suddenly, through the acrid smoke, an unbelievably refreshing scent washed over him.
…This?
Grayson stopped moving in an instant. A fresh, verdant scent, soft enough to release the tension from his entire body, filled the air all at once. His mind blurred into a white haze. Then, just as his vision suddenly went black, his entire body collapsed. At the same time, the pheromones he had been pouring onto the twins vanished instantly.
“Got him!”
The crew members wrestling with the man lifted him up just as he stopped moving. He was still flailing, but his strength seemed to have drained away. After the crew members hoisted the struggling man onto their shoulders and disappeared, Ezra hurriedly approached Dane.
“What happened? Why did this guy suddenly collapse?”
To Ezra, who was bewildered by the sight of the unconscious Grayson, Dane answered nonchalantly.
“Must have inhaled too much smoke.”
“Ah.”
Ezra nodded, accepting the explanation immediately. He tried to lift Grayson hurriedly, but it wasn’t easy. The blonde man was enormously large, easily over two meters tall. It was too far a distance to carry a body even bigger than Dane, who stood well over 190 centimeters. Ezra was already out of breath and struggling with the weight when Dane, who was helping carry Grayson, suddenly spoke.
“Let’s throw him.”
“What?”
When Ezra turned around in shock, Dane continued indifferently.
“Let’s throw him onto the air mattress. If we try to drag this bastard all the way out, we’ll die too.”
He wasn’t wrong. The fire had already spread throughout the entire house, and no one could guarantee safety on the way to the stairs leading to the ground floor.
“Let’s go to the window.”
Following Ezra’s agreement, the two hurriedly entered a nearby room. Fortunately, when they opened the window and leaned out, the crew members fighting the fire below spotted them immediately.
“Air mattress! We need a mattress!”
Dane shouted as he draped the heavy burden they had dragged along over the windowsill. Seeing Grayson still unconscious, Ezra spoke worriedly.
“We need to get him on oxygen quickly. Here, take my mask at least…”
“Lift.”
Ignoring Ezra’s attempt to take off his mask and cover Grayson’s face, Dane spat out the command. And before Ezra could even fully understand his words, Dane grabbed Grayson as he pleased and shoved him out the window.
“W-wait! Together, do it together!”
Ezra, who hurriedly grabbed Grayson’s limp body, checked that they were ready and then let go. Following that, Dane and Ezra also escaped the burning house, and the fire burned for another hour before it was extinguished.
When Grayson regained consciousness, he was lying in a hospital bed. The surroundings were suffocatingly quiet. Feeling a strange mood in the unfamiliar silence, he lay there for a moment. His memories returned one by one. The twins attacking and knocking him out, being dragged away and nearly raped, releasing his pheromones to trigger the twins’ heat cycles… and finally, as he vaguely recalled the fact that the mansion had caught fire, the door to the hospital room opened and someone entered.
“Ah, you’re awake.”
As he sat up awkwardly, the nurse who readily approached the bed checked Grayson’s vital signs and continued speaking.
“Are you feeling any discomfort? Aside from inhaling a little smoke, everything is fine. You can be discharged whenever you wish. Do you have any questions? Or anywhere that hurts?”
At the kind inquiry, Grayson blinked in confusion, then frowned deeply as he looked up at the nurse.
“How did I get here?”
“The paramedics brought you. They said you lost consciousness, so we ran various tests, but nothing special showed up. You must have been very tired.”
The nurse added a joke with a smile. But that wasn’t the truth. Grayson asked with a serious face.
“Is that all? Was there nothing else?”
The nurse tilted his head with a smile. As if asking what more he could be curious about. However, sensing he wouldn’t get the answer he wanted, Grayson simply shook his head.
“Fine. Leave.”
Without gaining any particular information, Grayson sent him away. Once he was alone, he chewed over his thoughts again.
What was it? That thing.
Thinking back to the last memory before he lost consciousness, he couldn’t stay calm. Grayson practically jumped out of bed and paced the room. As the nurse had said, he was fine. He was so perfectly fine it was almost strange.
Strange enough that he couldn’t understand why he had fainted.
He remembered clearly that he had poured out a tremendous amount of pheromones, enough to erase the twins’ scent. The room had been filled only with his own scent mixed with the acrid smoke.
But it was definitely there. A scent that wasn’t Grayson’s, a completely different scent.
The identity of the scent that had spread from behind him was something he definitely knew. A scent he had smelled a very long time ago—not just that of a common Omega, but…
A Dominant Omega’s pheromone.
Grayson had smelled it before. Because the Daddy who gave birth to him was a Dominant Omega. As a child, Grayson used to beg him to let him inhale that scent to his heart’s content. Unlike ordinary Omegas, a Dominant Omega could control their pheromones; they could hide them completely or pour them out at the perfect moment to throw a Dominant Alpha into chaos.
Just like what had caused Grayson to lose consciousness.
Among the firefighters… there is “one.”
His heart began to race madly. He couldn’t calm down at this unimaginable conclusion. He paced nervously around the hospital room, sweeping his hair back. Huff. He let out a trembling breath and tried to soothe himself.
