Desire Me If You Can Novel - Chapter 31
As he quickly left the bar, his colleagues stared blankly at his retreating back, and only when Dane was completely out of sight did they start talking.
“That bastard… come to think of it, I’ve never seen him date anyone.”
“Well, Dominant Alpha guys are like that, but honestly, isn’t Dane the worse one? He’s promiscuous for no reason at all.”
“He just doesn’t want to take responsibility, I guess.”
“That’s the same thing, you idiot.”
“Does it really boil down to that?”
Amidst their disorganized chatter, Ezra tilted his head.
“Why doesn’t Dane want to date? Even though he has sex.”
Various suggestions followed.
“Maybe he was badly burned before?”
“Are you saying Dane was dumped? By whom?”
“I don’t know. That’s just speculation.”
As expected, the conversation wandered aimlessly without reaching a conclusion. The atmosphere grew lively, and by the time they left the bar, everyone was tipsy and stumbling.

Damn it, bastard.
Grayson sat leaning against the fire truck, glaring at the empty space with a fierce face. A month had already passed since he became a firefighter. During that time, he had slept with every woman in the fire station. He had even slept with an employee from the company where he conducted fire safety training.
But it was futile. None of them showed the butterfly-shaped spot on their pelvis.
What the hell is going on?
Grayson rubbed his face irritably with both hands. Did I think wrong? Was it just a simple faint, not pheromones? Well, they say it’s rare to meet one even once in a lifetime; does it make sense to be hit twice by a Dominant Omega? If it were true, they would definitely be someone close to me, and it doesn’t make sense that I can’t find them.
Besides, I still don’t know why they caused the pheromone shock in the first place.
Until now, he hadn’t thought deeply about that part because he was excited by the belief that he had found his destiny, but now that things had come to this, regret and self-reflection followed.
Why? And twice?
If he couldn’t find the answer to this, he couldn’t ignore the conclusion that he was barking up the wrong tree from the start. To be fooled by that quack fortune teller and strike out again.
Until now, if it was confirmed that he had failed to find his destiny, he would immediately run away, but this time he couldn’t. A groan escaped from deep in his throat as he recalled the promise he had made with Ashley. He was stuck here for an entire year because of one mistake. Could there be a more ridiculous situation?
“Damn it.”
Just as he cursed again like a groan. He paused at a familiar music sound and took out his phone to check the caller. As soon as he saw who it was, Grayson frowned intensely but didn’t hang up.
“Well, well, Stacy. What’s the occasion? You called.”
As he greeted his twin sibling with a smooth voice, she replied from the other side.
-I heard you got a job at the fire station. How’s it going? Any special events?
Stacy, who had heard from Daddy early on that Grayson had gotten a job at the fire station, must have waited a month to ask this question. She probably calculated that this much time was needed for an exciting incident to occur. To her unusually excited voice, full of expectation, Grayson answered lightly.
“No. Unfortunately, nothing has happened. Everyone here says this is the first time it’s been so peaceful, without even minor brush fires.”
Of course, Stacy wasn’t just curious about whether there were fires or not, but she would understand the hint. Stacy complained, sounding genuinely disappointed.
-Oh, too bad. How boring.
To Grayson, who showed no reaction, she changed her tone and asked.
-So what are you going to do? Have you found your next partner already?
Grayson’s voice brightened, as if Stacy had regained interest. Of course, there was only one thing she wanted. She wanted to see Grayson fail again and be disappointed. She also expected the discarded partner to throw a tantrum, but Grayson’s answer was contrary to her wishes.
“No, not yet.”
-Surely you’re not giving up, are you?
To her voice filled with suspicion, Grayson answered slowly.
“Surely not. Never.”
He repeated Stacy’s words and added nonchalantly.
“I won’t give up. I’ll find her, no matter how long it takes.”
A faint smile appeared on Grayson’s lips.
“My one and only love in the world.”
-I hope you meet her soon. Tell me first.
Anyone else would have taken that as warm encouragement and care for a sibling’s future. But the person was Stacy. Although he couldn’t possibly be unaware of her true intentions—that she was excitedly waiting for the situation where her twin failed and chaos erupted—Grayson answered calmly.
“Of course. You’re my other half, after all.”
In fact, since they were fraternal twins, calling her his other half wasn’t accurate. But he shamelessly said things he didn’t mean, and Stacy, knowing this, accepted the words with a strange smile.
-I love you, Grayson.
“I love you, Stacy.”
They both hung up after saying words they didn’t mean, but their true feelings were entirely different. A quick thud sound was heard. Confirming the call had ended, Grayson muttered with an expressionlessly hardened face.
“What a psycho.”
He cursed, but his mood didn’t improve at all. He violently ruffled his hair, then let out a sigh.
What should I do now?
He was stuck here for a whole year. There had to be a way out of this predicament. Something, something.
“Should I set the fire station on fire?”
He muttered this seriously. Clang. A loud noise was heard, and when he turned his head, Ezra was looking at him with a deathly pale face. When their eyes met, Ezra jumped in surprise, didn’t know what to do, quickly picked up the can he had dropped, and fled the scene. Grayson watched his retreating back intently, muttered a brief curse, and turned his head back.
Not a bad idea, he thought, stroking his chin. Ezra, who was hiding behind the building and secretly watching him, hastily ran toward the fitness room.
“That bastard… he’s dangerous.”
Ezra, who had quickly returned to the fitness room, shouted as soon as he opened the door. His colleagues, who were attached to their exercise equipment, building their bodies, looked at him in confusion at the sudden announcement. Ezra pointed behind him with a pale face and continued.
“I was just getting a drink, and I saw Miller. Do you know what that bastard was muttering to himself? He said he was going to set the fire station on fire!”
“What?”
“Seriously? That crazy bastard actually said that?”
Everyone turned serious, detached themselves from their equipment, and stood facing him. Ezra nodded with a pale complexion, looking around.
“I’m serious. He looked like he was deep in thought with a serious face, and then he said that. I was so surprised I didn’t even ask him what he meant, and I left.”
The colleagues looked at each other with flustered faces. If anyone else said they were going to start a fire, they could dismiss it as being said in anger, but with Grayson, the story was different. That lunatic was more than capable of actually doing it.
“What is this suddenly about?”
Someone asked, but no one could answer. Another guy nervously ran his hand through his hair and spat out irritably.
“Why would he suddenly set the fire station on fire? Is he really crazy?”
“They say their minds get messed up if pheromones build up, Dominant Alphas.”
“He sleeps with every woman here day in and day out, and his pheromones still built up? If that’s the case, shouldn’t he just cut his dick off?”
They were highly agitated, exchanging harsh words. What the hell was wrong with that bastard? Since the physical fitness test, no one in the fire station had provoked Miller. Of course, no one talked to him either, but Grayson wouldn’t care at all. In short, they had thoroughly kept their distance and ignored each other, as if existing in different worlds.
But what Grayson had just said was a clear provocation that crossed the line. This could not be overlooked. Dare to set fire to the fire station, which was meant to prevent fires? Not a chance!
