Desire Me If You Can Novel - Chapter 20
2
One year was definitely a short time, but sometimes it could also feel terribly long. Dane, arriving at work on time, couldn’t help but burst into a hollow, incredulous laugh at the sight of Grayson flirting with yet another female colleague right in front of his eyes.
He had seen this exact same scene play out countless times already. It was enough to make him suspect he might be stuck in a time loop.
However, of course, such a thing was impossible. The most definite proof was that the female colleague’s face changed every time. Once again, the male colleagues watched listlessly as a different woman from the day before clung to Grayson. Eventually, unable to watch any longer, DeAndre exploded.
“I can’t take this anymore.”
At the sight of DeAndre jumping to his feet, breathing heavily, the men sitting together inspecting their personal equipment looked up in surprise. DeAndre pointed conspicuously to one side and spat out.
“Are you guys okay with this? are you just going to sit there and watch that happen every day?”
In the direction DeAndre pointed, Grayson Miller was flirting with a new female employee.
With his massive frame, Grayson Miller had one hand tucked into his pocket, wearing a relaxed smile, and was whispering something into her ear. In front of him, the female employee lightly brushed back her long hair and tilted her head slightly. With a bright smile and sparkling eyes, she was focused entirely on his story. A natural intimacy radiated from the small gesture of shrugging her shoulders. She laughed shyly, lightly stroking his arm or twirling her hair with her fingertips, reacting as if she found him fascinating.
The air flowing between the two felt natural, as if they had known each other for a long time. Everyone, having turned their gaze simultaneously to watch the scene, looked back at DeAndre. Amidst the bewildered guys, Ezra spread his hands wide and looked up at him. As if asking, what are you going to do about it?
“That bastard is ruining our organization right now! Are you just going to leave it be? Are you just going to stare blankly like this?”
The reaction was still lukewarm. The men, blinking their eyes blankly, opened their mouths reluctantly one by one.
“Then what do you want us to do…? What can we do?”
“Are you saying we should grab Miller and beat him up?”
“I’m all for beating up Miller, but beating him up because he’s popular with the ladies is a bit much, isn’t it? Anyway, the women don’t want to do it with us, so what can we do…?”
“I went on a date with Allie last week. Anyone can do it if they try.”
At someone’s sudden confession, everyone’s interest shifted there in an instant. The protagonist of the remark already wore a confident smile on his lips. Touching his chin with one hand and deliberately acting relaxed, a strange smugness could be felt from his slightly raised eyebrow.
“Oh-ho, not bad.”
“You sly dog! When did you pull off something like that?”
As applause and jeers erupted from all over, he puffed out his chest even more confidently.
“It’s proof that women aren’t all looking only at Miller. I’m going to coordinate my next day off with hers and go on a date, too. I picked out a nice restaurant.”
“Buy flowers when you go on a date. I always gifted roses.”
At Wilkins’ advice, he nodded and answered.
“I went to the flower shop and said I was going on a date, and they made a nice bouquet for me. When we went on a date last time, Allie wore a green dress, and she was seriously sexy.”
The men cheered, “Ooh!” supporting their colleague, but in DeAndre’s eyes, they were just a pathetic sight.
“You pathetic morons!”
He screamed at the top of his lungs, then suddenly turned around and stormed off. His startled colleagues watched his retreating back and hurriedly stood up. Is he planning to fight Miller? Should we stop him? Or is he just going to the restroom? As various thoughts crossed their minds, he suddenly headed in an unexpected direction.
“Uh… huh?”
Wilkins let out a bewildered, dumbfounded sound. While everyone watched with the same feeling, DeAndre stopped walking and suddenly shouted.
“What the hell is this? Aren’t you all being too much? How could you betray us!”
The female employees, who had gathered to inspect their personal equipment, turned to look at him all at once. Everyone looked puzzled at his out-of-the-blue outburst. Though the courage to barge into the women’s space and shout was quite commendable, their actual reaction was cold.
“What do you mean, betrayal? Speak so we can understand.”
Priscilla, the B-Team leader, stood up and asked. Seeing his colleagues standing up one by one with fierce demeanors following her, DeAndre flinched and stepped back, but when he turned his head, the male employees watching him came into view. Unable to retreat due to his pride, DeAndre took his stance again and puffed out his chest, blustering as if nothing was wrong.
“I asked for a date three times, and you rejected me! It’s not just me, all of us were rejected! How could you coldly ignore us, who have been together for years, and treat a guy you haven’t even known for a week like that? You’re all traitors, traitors!”
To DeAndre’s cry filled with resentment, however, the women all responded cynically.
“So.”
Valentina, who was standing behind, stepped forward and opened her mouth.
“In the end, you’re asking why we sleep with Grayson Miller but won’t sleep with you, isn’t that it? Do you all think the same?”
At the blunt question from Valentina, whom he usually worshipped, DeAndre flinched in surprise. At her gaze directed toward the men standing behind him, they also panicked and shook their heads.
“No, we wouldn’t go that far.”
“We’re just curious, call it simple curiosity.”
“Hey, I’m not even curious. There must be a reason. DeAndre, what are you doing? Just come here, quickly.”
Ezra even gestured urgently, but despite that, DeAndre stood firm, waiting for an explanation. The more you do that, the more miserable you’ll become! The men watching from behind all thought the same thing and pitied him, but there was no other way. The women chuckled at the lukewarm attitude of the men, who didn’t actively drag him away, perhaps inwardly curious about what answer would come out.
“He’s handsome. And he has good manners.”
“Is that all?”
When DeAndre asked as if he had been waiting for Valentina’s words, this time Liz spoke.
“When I actually experienced Grayson, he was sweet and kind. Plus, we communicate well. It was the first time a man empathized with my words like that.”
“What?”
At those words, not only DeAndre but also the men watching from behind were shocked. What does that mean? To the flustered men, another woman spoke.
“Besides, it felt like he was reading my mind completely. He naturally caught onto what I wanted and what kind of words I wanted to hear. He approached me without being overbearing, but I could feel his sincerity? He’s not just gentle on the surface; his way of being considerate to the other person is truly detailed.”
“Right, isn’t it amazing? Plus, since he listens to whatever I say, I fell in love in that instant.”
At those words, the women who had dated Grayson nodded in agreement from here and there. But DeAndre still couldn’t understand their words.
“Dominant Alphas are psychopaths! But he empathizes? That’s nonsense, you guys must be mistaken!”
Despite DeAndre’s protest, the women’s reaction remained cold. As if to say, no matter how much you rant, nothing will change for us.
“I wanted to try sleeping with a Dominant Alpha. It’s a special experience, isn’t it?”
Thinking that words weren’t getting through to him, they gave another reason. When Liz said that, agreement followed again.
“True. Plus, it was the first time in my life I’ve seen a Dominant Alpha. And sex with one? Wouldn’t you be curious, naturally?”
Seeing them nod from all around, DeAndre dropped his jaw in disbelief, unable to speak. Valentina smirked and looked at DeAndre.
“Don’t you get it yet? Women can be as debauched as they want, as long as there’s no risk of pregnancy.”
“Dominant Alphas control fertilization. Isn’t it wonderful? To have such amazing sex and not have to worry about getting pregnant.”
“I finally understood why men go so crazy for sex. Since there’s no risk of pregnancy, you can enjoy it to your heart’s content.”
“If men were the ones who got pregnant, not women, you guys would have been forced to become cautious, too.”
