Desire Me If You Can Novel - Chapter 17
“Dane!!”
“What the, you were here?”
“Where have you been? Why are you so late?”
As soon as they saw Dane Striker, the gathered team members scrambled to ask him questions in shock. But instead of answering, Dane threw something to the floor. Seeing the man collapse with a heavy thud, they forgot their questions in an instant and turned pale.
A silence fell as if time had stopped.
Grayson Miller was lying unconscious.
His massive body sagging heavily against the floor made him look like a giant beast lying powerless. His thick forearms, his body covered in solid muscle, his physique far larger than the average man. Seeing that monster-like existence lying there defenseless, everyone’s minds went blank.
“Wh-wh-wh-what is this?”
“Miller… that’s Grayson Miller, isn’t it? What happened? Why is he like this?”
“Dane, don’t tell me you hit him? What happened!”
While the team members screamed, vying to voice their different reasons for panic, Dane merely answered briefly with a frown, as before.
“I don’t know, he just suddenly fainted. Must be anemia or something.”
Anemia? What nonsense!
There was no way a man over two meters tall and weighing well over 100 kilograms would have anemia. No one would believe that. But the fact remained that Grayson was lying there unconscious. Therefore, they were forced to think the same thing.
This bastard hit Miller and knocked him out again.
Wilkins, clutching his throbbing head and letting out a deep sigh, asked.
“You didn’t run into Miller, did you?”
“Probably?”
At Dane’s nonchalant reply, a vein popped on Wilkins’ temple.
“Tell me clearly, did Miller not see you?”
“Probably?”
Just as Wilkins’ frustration was about to explode at Dane’s repeated insincere answers, Ezra cut in.
“What happened? Just tell us the gist of the situation!”
As everyone looked on anxiously, Dane answered half-heartedly this time as well.
“Nothing much. I was having sex in the storage room when this guy suddenly opened the door, took a look, and then collapsed on his own.”
The listeners mentally inserted the words “because I hit him” between “took a look” and “collapsed on his own.” Hmm, now it makes sense.
Having roughly summarized the situation, they moved in perfect order to get their stories straight. One person clung closely to Dane, linking arms, and admonished him in a serious tone.
“You didn’t come here today, got it?”
Someone else looked around at the others and shouted.
“Everyone knows, right? Dane didn’t come here today!”
Then, as if of one mind, they all started pushing Dane’s back.
“That’s it, you go quickly. Nothing happened today. Okay? You understand?”
“We’ll take care of the rest. Go quickly, hurry up and go!”
Dane stood awkwardly, bewildered by the urgent barrage of words. Why are these bastards suddenly acting like this? Is there a problem? Surely they weren’t worried about Grayson Miller after trying to give him such a grand welcome ceremony; they were making a huge fuss.
Ezra, burning with anxiety at Dane’s immobility and disregard for his colleagues’ urgency, shouted desperately.
“This guy is looking for you! So don’t get caught and go quickly!”
However, his words only fueled Dane’s curiosity. Instead, he stopped dead in his tracks and asked back.
“Me? Why?”
Looking at the handsome face with its furrowed brow, Wilkins spoke.
“You knocked Miller out back then, didn’t you? Miller came here to find you.”
Dane paused for a moment. Seeing his eyes waver unusually, Ezra quickly added.
“Miller is looking for the person who hit him and knocked him out. We said we didn’t know, so you get your story straight too. You never came here, got it? Now go, hurry up and leave!”
Because they kept pushing him, Dane had no choice but to leave as instructed. The remaining team members quickly tidied up the surroundings. Fortunately, the people in the bar were all thoroughly drunk and hadn’t noticed the commotion among them at all. In fact, the team had drunk quite a bit themselves, but the situation in front of them sobered them up instantly.
“Let’s move him first. Let’s ask the owner if there’s a place to lay him down.”
“I’ll go check!”
At Wilkins’ instruction, Ezra hurried off to find the owner. The remaining team members gathered awkwardly, each grabbing a limb of the man over two meters tall, and left the spot.
Even then, Grayson hadn’t regained consciousness at all. The strong scent of a strange Omega’s pheromones lingered around him, mixed with the pheromones he usually exuded, but the drunken team members didn’t realize it at all.
When Grayson opened his eyes again, several pairs of eyes looking down at him worriedly came into his blurry vision. The ceiling lights smeared dizzily, and the surrounding noise sounded distant. His ears rang as if muffled, and his body felt heavy, as if sinking into the floor.
What… is this situation?
Before he could fully regain his senses, voices erupted all at once as if they had been waiting.
“Miller, are you okay?”
“Are you uncomfortable anywhere? A doctor will be here soon, just wait a little.”
“What happened? Were you feeling unwell? Maybe you couldn’t control your pheromones…”
Questions poured down, but Grayson couldn’t answer a single one. Because he didn’t understand the situation either.
“Wait a moment, we should wait until the doctor comes…”
When Grayson tried to sit up, the staff panicked and tried to stop him. But he stood up regardless, dusting off his clothes. Wilkins appeared belatedly from among the employees who were fidgeting anxiously.
“Miller, what on earth happened? We found you collapsed in the hallway and dragged you here. Do you know what happened?”
At the fussy question, the team members were inwardly tense. What if he saw Dane’s face? As they desperately hoped for one more stroke of luck, Grayson grimaced instead of answering.
“I don’t remember.”
“What?”
Everyone looked at him with expressions of worry mixed with puzzlement. Feeling the gazes focused on him, Grayson spat out irritably.
“I said I don’t remember, at all. What happened.”
The gathered people looked at each other and shut their mouths. Thank god…! Amidst the silence soaked in relief, Grayson cursed lowly.
“Damn it.”
Watching him run his hand roughly through his hair, no one opened their mouth. In the awkward stillness, only Grayson chewed his lip anxiously, chewing over his thoughts.
Just what happened?
In the car returning home, Grayson recalled the events with annoyance. No matter how much he wracked his brain, he couldn’t remember anything. The last thing he recalled was leaving the party and opening the door to find the restroom. He couldn’t remember anything after that, no matter how hard he tried. He had definitely seen someone in there.
Let alone a face, he couldn’t even recall the gender. All he knew was the faint scent of an Omega’s pheromones. And that the damn chest was incredibly luscious.
<You must have missed your step.>
The team members who had waited for him to wake up said so. The CCTV installed in the hallway showed Grayson opening the door and suddenly collapsing on the floor a few seconds later. The people inside, presumably a couple, came out into the hallway, examined Grayson, and then quickly left hand in hand. A short while later, only the man returned, hoisted Grayson over his shoulder, walked down the hallway, and disappeared from the screen. Seeing that they were alone in such a place, it was obvious what they had been doing.
It’s the same person.
He could be certain. It was the same as last time. Consciousness vanished the moment he smelled the Omega’s pheromones. It was definitely him from back then. Even the method was identical.
The problem was that he couldn’t remember the process at all. He knew that a Dominant Omega could cause pheromone shock in a Dominant Alpha, leading to memory impairment or loss of consciousness. But to fall for the same trick twice.
