Desire Me If You Can Novel - Chapter 15
“Really…? Hey, Wilkins! Wilkins! Yes, you. Come here.”
The chief, tilting his head, soon called out to one of the group drinking and beckoned him over. Wilkins, who had been drinking with the other employees, approached them, beer mug in hand, with a reluctant expression.
“Yes, Chief. What is it?”
To Wilkins, who cast a disapproving glance at Grayson, the chief spoke.
“Miller says there’s someone he’s looking for. You took your team inside the mansion back then, didn’t you?”
The chief introduced Wilkins to Grayson.
“This is Darius Wilkins. Wilkins, this is Grayson Miller, as you know. He’ll be working in your team from now on. Grayson, this is the leader of the team you’ll be working with.”
Wilkins’ face twisted immediately. Looking down at the chief and spreading his hands wide, his gesture seemed to scream, ‘What nonsense is this?’ Despite his blatant rejection, Grayson grabbed Wilkins’ hand nonchalantly and shook it as he pleased.
“I look forward to working with you. Nice to meet you.”
Wilkins, dumbfounded once again, pointed at Grayson ostentatiously with his free hand and shrugged his shoulders. The chief, ignoring the protesting look Wilkins shot at him, patted both their arms.
“Get along well. Wilkins is a good leader, so follow his instructions well, alright? Miller.”
“Of course. I will do exactly that.”
Grayson spoke as if he had been waiting for this, but Wilkins looked completely unconvinced. Shaking off Grayson’s hand roughly as if he had touched something filthy, he glared at Grayson and spoke to the chief.
“Then you’re done with me, right? I’m going back to my team.”
“Wait, hold on.”
The chief called Wilkins back just as he was turning to leave immediately. To Wilkins, who looked back reluctantly, the chief pointed at Grayson and said.
“Take your team member with you.”
Wilkins opened his mouth wide and silently mouthed, “What?” Seeing him spread his arms wide again and drop them in frustration, the chief admonished him sternly.
“Isn’t this a good opportunity? Use this chance to introduce him to the team and let them get to know his face. That’s what this gathering is for.”
He wasn’t wrong. Wilkins sighed into the air and simply turned around. The chief nudged Grayson and said.
“Go with him. They’re the colleagues you’ll be working with, so introduce yourself…”
“So this team consists of the members who entered the mansion back then, right?”
Once again, Grayson cut off the chief’s words. Seeing his attitude, as if his interest had already shifted elsewhere, the chief nodded with a resigned expression, seemingly used to it by now.
“Yes. If you go and ask, you’ll find out who it is…”
By the time he said ‘ask’, Grayson had already left. Left alone, the chief trailed off weakly and sighed.
When the team leader left at the chief’s call, he was definitely alone, but when he returned, he wasn’t. Seeing him return with an unwelcome tail, the team members standing around the round standing table drinking were all taken aback and looked at him. Wilkins mouthed “I know” silently, but there was nothing he could do. The team members looked at Grayson, who naturally came to their table and took a spot, with disdainful gazes.
“Hello, hello, hi.”
Grayson, nodding lightly and acknowledging them one by one, smiled broadly, but no one smiled back. In this situation, one would usually be daunted by the awkward atmosphere, but unfortunately, the opponent was Grayson Miller. Just how thick-skinned was this shameless man? He showed absolutely no sign of embarrassment. Instead, seeing him beam and offer handshakes, the team members were so appalled that they soon lost all will to resist. To the team members who were just drinking beer silently with dejected expressions, Grayson brought up the topic first.
“When the fire broke out at Mendez’s mansion last time, this team went inside to rescue people, right?”
“Mendez?”
“You know, that pheromone party.”
To the team member who asked inadvertently, another team member nudged his arm with an elbow and spoke.
“You know, where Dominant Alphas gathered in a herd to screw around, claiming to release pheromones. Here comes the cum! Shudder, shudder. Arghhh! Pheromones, my pheromones are draining out! My brain is draining out too!“
At the man’s act of thrusting his hips back and forth and screaming ostentatiously, the gathered team members burst into laughter. Naturally, it was even more enjoyable because it was a mockery aimed directly at Grayson. However, those who had been laughing loudly with their bodies thrown back stopped dead when they saw Grayson laughing uproariously right along with them.
What? Is he crazy?
Everyone had the same thought. As their expressions vanished one by one and they looked at him with bewildered faces, Grayson, who had been laughing his head off alone in the silence, also stopped. Seeing him become expressionless like a mask in an instant, everyone went beyond bewilderment and felt creeped out. Just what is he? This bastard.
“Why? Keep going. It was funny.”
“…”
“Is that it? Well, alright.”
Grayson shrugged his shoulders conspicuously.
“Anyway, as it happens, I was at that mansion. Being a Dominant Alpha myself, I thought I’d release some pheromones. Fortunately, thanks to the fire, it ended as an attempt and I didn’t lose my brain.”
As Grayson continued to speak, the faces of the people standing there darkened by the second. They felt it in their bones that he wasn’t someone to be taken lightly. If someone simply had a bad temper or trashy personality, they could just fight it out with fists or whatever, but from olden times, the answer was not to associate with a crazy person.
“Uh, excuse me, I… have something to do.”
When the man who had mocked Grayson tried to leave quickly, sensing the mood, the others hurriedly moved as well. But before they could even take a step, Grayson caught them first.
“Stop.”
At that single chilly word, those trying to flee froze in their tracks. When they looked back reluctantly, Grayson spoke commandingly with a face still devoid of expression.
“I have something to ask, so gather round again. Hurry.”
“…”
“Come here immediately. Right here.”
At his act of tapping the table with his index finger as if to show off, they had no choice but to return hesitantly. While they were just eyeing each other in the awkward silence, Grayson looked around at everyone once and spoke.
“Is this everyone who entered the mansion that day?”
At his tone, which was chilly unlike before, the team members blinked in confusion. For some reason, the atmosphere felt like an interrogation, making it hard to speak easily, but Wilkins asked back first.
“Why the sudden question? Why are you curious about that?”
At the blunt voice, Grayson smiled. Once again, the team members felt a strange sensation. Is now the time to smile like that? Smiling to soften an opponent’s hostility was something anyone did commonly. But there was something unsettling about that man’s smile. What is it?
While they couldn’t find the answer, Grayson opened his mouth.
“I want to find the person who saved me back then. I don’t know how I lost consciousness, but when I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital room. If that person hadn’t saved me, I probably would have died.”
He placed a hand on his chest with a moved expression and let out a deep sigh.
“Thanks to them, I am alive like this, so I want to repay them. I at least want to convey my greetings; could you tell me who it is?”
At those words, Wilkins looked around at the rest of the team. As if asking if anyone knew. Then, quick-witted Ezra stepped forward rapidly and asked in a loud voice.
“Well, it was so chaotic back then, I’m not really sure. Does anyone remember?”
The other team members shook their heads in unison, repeating only that they didn’t know. Grayson narrowed his eyes and frowned, but their reaction didn’t change. Grayson slowly swept back his hair and muttered as if to himself, but loudly enough for everyone to hear.
“I said I wanted to repay them, but everyone says they don’t know…”
Soon, he smiled brightly and said.
“Then I have no choice but to find them myself.”
